since I got my new pc I haven't been able to login as "couchgrouch". the Taxi folks are working on it. The LetterTommy’d always gotten straight AsBut his dad wouldn’t let him have playdatesWhile he studied for the all state spelling beeHis dad wanted to raise a winnerSo Tommy stayed upstairs after dinnerWebster’s was his pillow when he fell asleepBut Tommy froze up on stageHis dad hung his head at 2nd place ashamed of his son because he lost by oneLetter…cos if he’d tried and showed some prideHe woulda done better instead his dad said he was just a quitterBut he was too innocent and youngTo have his life summed up by one letterThen when Tommy was in high schoolHe spent all his eveningsTraining hard to letter in track and fieldAnd he always hated FridaysHe’d be joggin’ on that highwayKids’d pass on their way to keggers in the hillsWhen he wore home that sweaterIt wasn’t good enough for his dadOther kids had scholarships but all he hadWas a letter…but if he’d tried and showed some prideHe woulda done better instead his dad said he was just a quitterBut he was too innocent and youngTo have his life summed up by one letterSo he found the strength to strike out on his ownBut not to tell his dad he was leavin’ homeSo he got a pen and poured out all his hurtBut all his dad saw was he misspelled a word on that lettercos if he’d tried and showed some prideHe woulda done better instead his dad said he was just a quitterthough he was too innocent and youngTo have his life summed up by one letter©2007 Robert George
