Miss AmericaI helped wash the dishes, when dinner was throughthen watched classic boxing, on ESPN2my daughter was giggling, on a kitchen chairwhile my wife brushed and braided, her long, flowing hairwell, I changed the channel, when Ali won in threesaw this girl dressed in glamour, talking 'bout world peacea sign that said "Hawaii", hung across her gownwhen I saw her gold tiara, I knew she'd been crownedMiss Americaand everything it meansand winning that titleis what some girls dreamshe said it's more than she imaginedand it's more than just a pageantbeing Miss Americawhile the spotlight's glare, glowed on her lipstick glossI tried hard to guess, what hair extenders costshe looked more Hollywood, than US of Awhen they aim for movie star, I think sometimes theymiss Americaand everything it meansthough winning that titleis what some girls dreamshe said it's more than she imaginedand it's more than just a pageantbeing Miss Americawell, my daughter's hair, is bright chestnut brownwhen my wife finished braiding, it shone like a crownshe kissed me on the forehead, then ran up to her roomI said any young lady, like her is a trueMiss Americaand everything it meansthough winning that titleis what some girls dreamshe said it's more than she imaginedbut beauty's more than just a pageantand being Miss America(c)2007 Robert George
