Dream BoatKids said he was stuck-up and standoff-ishhe'd cut school to catch winnows n crawfishin some canoe tied to a mossy old dockall the while that little boy was fishin'he was watchin' his line just wishin'his leaky tub was a fifty foot yachthe had a bait jar full of worms and pollywogsand a picture torn from a sportsman's catalogof his dream boatwhere one day he'd drift awayon some distant bayhe'd let the water ripple and the poor fish nibbleon his lineand let the four strong winds, of fantasy blow into fill the sails of his mindthen away he'd float on his dreamboathe grew up and got work on a trawlerhauling nets and makin' an honest dollarletting the high seas be his restless hometen years on he fin'lly made skipperhe'd stare up nights at the lonely big dipperand long for a business he could call his ownfingers pokin' through salt-faded glovesas he gently unfolded an old picture ofhis dream boatwhere one day he'd drift awayon some distant bayhe'd let the water ripple and the poor fish nibbleon his lineand let the four strong winds, of fantasy blow into fill the sails of his mindthen away he'd float on his dreamboatthe first night on his new yachthe walked out 'neath the starswhile friends he didn't know drank n danced belowand ate his caviaryeah, it took a sea of debtto keep that yacht afloatand sad but true a leaky canoebecame his new dream boat(c)2006 Robert George
