That's How I See ItI can still hear them, many years agoDad and a neighbor jawin', over a cup of Joemy neighbor kept talkin', of wars and the price of gaswith the cost of living rising, life was sinking fastbut Dad shook his head and began to speakhe said, "morning pours over mountain peaksand shows us how hope can help the weakso we've gotta let our weary hearts seekwhat doubts keep hidI could be wrong but I realizeit's human nature to criticizebut we must see the day with both our eyescos in each one lies a timeless prizeand that's how I see it"though times have changed since then, somehow they're more the samerather than light a candle, some curse the night and complainbut there's one thing about critics, I know Dad would agreeif you're free to question, then at least you're freecos the world can feel hard to facewhen each day is a step in a backward racelife becomes a dark and narrow spaceand liberty's the only placethe lantern's litso walk a twilight path in a city parkhear the laughing songs of meadowlarkswithout sundown there'd be no evening starsyou have to shut your eyes for life to be darkthat's how I see itthat's how I see itthat's how I see it(c)2005 Robert George
