I have a new book coming out in about a month and is available for pre-order now. If you read my first book (Writing Production Music for TV: The Road to Success) you know that it covers the ins-and-outs of the production music industry but covers little of actual music composition. This book picks up where the first book left off.

The short answer is YES, but I don't have an ETA on that yet.

Hi Steve, and congratulations on releasing another 'bible' for us all to learn from.

Just one question from me though, does it require the ability to read standard notation (as the cover suggests)?

Being able to read music notation will certainly be an advantage. The book consists of complete transcriptions of orchestral scores of my music cues. Just as if you were studying a film score by John Williams or a symphony by Beethoven, the more you know about music theory will be beneficial. The book contains links to online audio to listen to while viewing the scores in the book. Each chapter will highlight various sections of the music and explain why it was written that way, or why is was orchestrated that way, or why thematically this works, etc.

I don't want to exclude anybody by not being able to read music. I'm hoping there is enough info in the book to make it worth your while.

I'm sort of semi-literate on notation but I'm sure I won't be able to resist the book. Thanks for the helpful reply.

Steve, I still need to pick up the first book, but it's great that you've got a new one on the way. Also it's nice that you'll have audio examples. Hope you sell a ton.

This is perfect! I've often thought if there was a person to learn orchestral techniques from for these pitches, it would be you.
I hear your stuff and it's obvious you know what you're doing.

I didn't study formally, but absolutely love working with orchestration, though it's all by ear.
But I can follow along in a score! (I use to read and play classical guitar in my younger years)
