Combating Global Warming - Recycle!

Post by davidgoodall » Thu May 07, 2009 9:59 am

Hello All,Shameless self-promotion, and possibly a wee idea for some of you. I had a few tracks I had done for corporate films, the Y2K Millennium Dome Exhibition in London, TV docs, etc. All done and dusted (and dusty) several years ago and snoozing quietly on the hard drives. I decided to take a batch of them with similar moods and stick 'em on an album. It's on iTunes, Amazon etc. and it's called Quiet Talks by me (David Goodall). I'm not suggesting anyone buys it (well, yes - I am), but the interesting bit is that I blanket emailed my contacts about it, with a sentence to producers to give me a shout about licensing any tracks they might like, and lo and behold I've not only had a couple of licensing opportunities, but the email and the album put my name in some folks' heads and I got a couple of commissions too. So once you've finished those projects (non-exclusive or time-limited licences of course!), why not recycle them? Aside from the possibilities from annoying folk with your email - if you just make a few bucks from a few sales: it's more than you would have made from playing them to yourself on your hard drive! All that aside - if the result of global warming is Scotland being hot and London being submerged - I'm still trying to find the bad!All the best. : )

Awesome - yes! This is one of the fundamental concepts of Multiple Streams of Music Income - repackaging and repurposing material you've already created. Perhaps that means taking a song and creating a different style arrangement to it. Perhaps that means taking a song and repackaging it for itunes download, ringtone. Perhaps it means making it an instrumental, arranging it for multiple voices and publishing the sheet music for choral singing. So many possibiities!
