Hello everybody,I am a new Taxi member and I want to begin by submitting two songs right off the bat. The problem is I am having trouble defining what genre they would best fall under. Does anyone else have this problem? The songs in question are "Under the Soil" and "Easy to Want". Here's my URL http://www.myspace.com/brokentoybrigade Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.-Shawn

Hi ShawnListening to "Under The Soil... I really like it... I'd probably called it indie rock. But I can see why it's hard to classify. There is that Eastern sound and at times it slips into a 70's Pink Floyd-ish vibe.I think it starts off indie but around 50 seconds it takes on that 70's thing. Would you consider re-working it to de-Floyd it and keep that indie thing going? You could also keep two versions, one with the more Eastern sound and one without. Unfortunately when tracks are hard to classify they often are harder to place in film/TV. But once in a while you see requests for things that are just plain different and unusual.I really enjoyed!HTH Casey

It's so helpful to get feedback from someone other then my family and friends. I'll take the indie approach into consideration. I often build a song off of one particular sound or riff, in this case the Eastern thing. I'm excited to see what I can come up with. Thanks again for your suggestions. It's always helpful to get a fresh perspective. If you have any music you need advice on pass it along. I'd love to hear it. Take care.-Shawn

Hi Shawn,Just listening to "Under the Soil" now, it's very good and I agree it's difficult to classify but maybe that's what will work for you in the end?! You could take it one way or the other or maybe even work that indie vibe right through the song, I think that's what I am personally drawn to here. Good luck, I'd like a listen to the next version!"Easy to Want" is a very cool song Lindsey
