I had someone in the studio the other day, and we did this one-take wonder scratch track. Try a loop from Claustrophobic with the pop/rock or Nashville kit. I'd try a "half-time" feel groove on it. This would be a great time to go to Guitar Center and pick up the "Funk"expansion pack - Big Blue

I'm not a drummer, but something in my mind says "Brushes for verses and sticks for choruses".
