COUNTRY listing

Post by lyricboy » Thu Jan 22, 2009 4:40 am

CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY SONGS a la WALKER HAYES are needed by the Sr. Director of A&R at a Major Nashville Label. You can think along the lines of Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Trace Adkins, Dierks Bentley, etc. for stylistic direction. This new artist needs hit songs — memorable hooks, compelling lyric stories and a unique twist on familiar ideas. Conversational, "every man" lyrics will certainly rise to the top — make sure a youthful edge is present. Mid to up-tempo material will be preferable, but all tempos will be considered at this point. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than January 26, 2009. TAXI # S090126CO This listing has a near date. There are a couple others for mid Feb. that this song might fit, too.I'm looking for a collaboration with someone who can compose and record the music. I can sing the lyrics, but don't feel I "have to" if we need a more professional sound.Get in touch if you're interested! Also, anyone that isn't interested, please comment on the song if you want (I'm going to cross-post to Lyric Lovers). It sounds (to me) like Trace Adkins with a little jazz undertone and a couple jazz-type riffs thrown in (maybe). Here it is:I’LL TAKE THE 5TH©2008V 1 I said “What are ya - some kinda joker? You know she don’t ‘llow me - to drink and play poker”That’s all I recall - sayin’ to my buddyAfter that it all really - gets kinda muddyI crept through my front door - a strugglin’ to standAs I turned around – (with my) Jim Beam in hand (then)CHORUS1 She started grillin’ me Like an attorney (She said) “You’ll have to choose Is it me or the booze You wanna live with?”……… (I said) “Your Honor I’ll take the fifth”BRIDGE (spoken) Well apparently that was the wrong thing to say Next thing I knew I was lookin’ for a place to stayV 2 I’m out drivin’ ‘round – (in) the middle of the night Handlebar in my left hand – Jim Beam in my right I got pulled over – by an overzealous cop Coulda won AFV – try’n’ to get my Schwinn stopped I said “Officer - what were ya thinkin’? Din’t ya see my bottle? - Of course I been drinkin’!”CHORUS 2 He started grillin’ me Like an attorney (He said), “You’ll have to choose. Is it your bike or the booze You wanna leave with?”……… (I said) “Your Honor I’ll take the fifth”BRIDGE (spoken) And I’m guessin’ that answer didn’t sail ‘Cuz next thing I knew I was sittin’ in jail V 3 I was examined up and down - and examined acrossJudge said “Why’re ya here?” - I said “I’m at a loss”It seemed like he liked me - least I thought soIt seemed like he might - just let me go(But) when I slid out my bottle - for a little sip You shoulda seen his eyes - and his quiverin’ lipCHORUS 3 (The) Judge was glarin’ at me Worse than the attorney (He said) “You’ll have to choose. Is it jail or the booze? Let’s get this over with!”………BRIDGE (sung) And I KNOW you know That after much deliberation And after due consideration That fin’lly me, myself, and I’d Unanimously decide To take the fifth! (I said) “Your Honor I’ll take the fifth” Now I don’t have to choose ‘Cuz I kept my booze I took the fifth! FADE I’ll take the fifth… I took the fifth… I’ll take the fifth…

No, I didn't. I don't really know the first thing about GETTING a demo done (mostly worried about the 10th and 20th things, though). Right now I just don't have the funds.I'm trying to do some collab work and to learn guitar.I recorded a vocal only treatment of a few of my lyrics, to get the musical structure in some kind of format people could listen to.I'd be honored if anyone wants to give a listen.http://www.reverbnation.com/gregorycrawfordJust don't expect anything high end. I recorded that on my built-in laptop mic.Thanksg
