I have not found a tremolo plugin yet that sounds anywhere near a decent hardware unit (pedal or amp trem. circuit). They just don't seem to have as much 'swing and sway' as the h/w units. I don't mind tracking with h/w, just curious what others are using...

For tremolo I would use Amplitube 3, the Fender extension..

Ya, I have amplitube III. I actually kinda like the opto tremolo better than the Fender version depending on the sound I'm going for. That said, neither of them evoke the sound and feel of a real amp tremolo circuit IMO. I use delays and verbs inside the box w/o feeling as if I'm missing much if anything over using outboard gear. Those effects are pretty complicated right? Tremolo is just modulating volume over time in a simple sinusoidal wave right? You'd think software could nail it. Great tremolo circuits make you sea-sick when the depth is on 10. It's like having bed spins or something. None of the plugs I've played create that vibe (no pun intended, (vibrato is pitch modulation actually)).

Maybe I'm just trying to justify owning too many amps and pedals....

line 6 pod software has a number of different units.

waves GTR has some cool tremolos that you can vary the waveforms.

UAD-2 software Roland CE-1 has an interesting tremolo.

the guitarplugins within Logic have some nice models.

I know what you mean. I sold an awesome Swedish brand tremolo, that could change my gut to gold because I thoight I could rely on the Sim's, and I regret it. I loved the way I could turn it all the way down too, and have it sustain the tone without even noticing the effect was on. It even made my single coils quiet.. why, whyyyy????

But try using two tremoloes at once in stead of just one . Vary the settings slightly. You can do that in the digital domain, and it can add to the complexity of the tone, and consequently bring more depth.

I agree, the virtual tremolo units fall pretty short of a real amp. But then you have the convenience factor, so....

The Adrenalinn Sync http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/adrenali ... ug-in.html has a pretty good tremolo, and some other crazy beat sync'd effects as well.

I like the Line 6 Pod Farm stuff. Lots of options and you can tweak like crazy.

Never heard it but I would think if Amplitube Fender can't nail it, stick to a pedal .......
