Got a questions for anyone who has working with acoustic foam or sound treatment for their studio. As I am getting close to finishing the reno of Studio "B" I was looking at getting a custom kit from Auralex. I sent them some room schematics and pictures and I should be hearing back from them soon. From what I can see on their site a kit for similar dimensions for my studio would probably run around 1500, which I was pretty happy with considering they have a very decent client base of some rather prominent musicians and sound engineers. It would be a kit similar to this, only beefed up a bit due to my room size http://www.auralex.com/sound_control_pr ... roplus.asp . Has anyone dealt with them or any other companies for this kind of product? I'm open to other options if someone has any info.

I bought 2'X4'X2" rigid fiberglass panels from ATS Acoustics and covered them in fabric on my own. It was pretty inexpensive to go this way, but covering the panels in fabric is time consuming and little messy with the fiberglass and spray adhesive. I'm very happy with the results and 6 covered panels in my small control/tracking room has helped immensely. ATS has lots of options with finished products too. http://www.atsacoustics.com

Yes, several years ago I bought some of their foam products. I went with the 4" foam on mic stands, and I have 4 of the Lenrd bass traps on mic stands. Great product!

The nice thing about having them on mic stands is that they are portable and you can move them around and up and down.

They were very helpful and my little room sounds way better now. Yes, make sure you get a few you can hang on mic stands, very handy for portable baffling. And I got a combination of 4" and 2" thicknesses.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'm glad there are more options to consider and seeing some positive outcomes from your experience is great. I've sent of emails to auralex, ATC and Gik and will wait to hear back from them all so I can compare. They all look great.

they used to have DIY that was just microsude "bags" with reinforced corners that you bought with OC 703 rigid foam insulation (2" thicknesses) and made either 4" thick traps or 2" traps depending on the bags you bought. The bags have three loops on the back, enabling vertical or horizontal wall mounting, ceiling mounting, or hanging an a mic stand for a live session where you want to move stuff around.

I think the angled roof is going to need some special attention unless you are monitoring across the short dimension of the room.

Wow, haha I didn't realize there were so many options! I'm enjoying going over everything.

Yeah it will be interesting to get some expert advise on how to treat the room with the current dimensions. Initially I thought of dividing the room up with one side being heavily treated vocal booth and other side for mastering. In the end I decided to treat the whole room as best I can and use a baffle system to dampen sound around the mic. The great thing is that my studio computer and server is not located in this room. I have a pipe that I ran from a different room into here and I'm going to run my mogami snake and other cables to my work station in the studio. I think my acoustic recording quality is really going to improve drastically.

And yes, no more chilly commute.... even if it is just 100 yards or so !

I made DIY bass traps and sound baffles with 2 in rock wool as the core of the panels. Very effective. Good luck in your pursuit of great recordings.
