hi could anybody recommend a nice sounding (affordable ) preamp -soundcard combo.... i'm building a little recording setup for
recording ..singer songwriter stuff... just a me and my guitar project .. i'm just just starting out ..
looks like i will be joining the taxi family with membership this week..cant wait to start, as people say ( re-writing song's ) LOL!
so i'm running a laptop with fl studio for now, and i just bought the v69 for voice and i'm getting a pair of
se1a 's to mic the guitar (mounted XY.)
but im really torn on a USB sound card with a built in preamp. ANY FEED BACK IS HELPFUL.

If you're on a Mac it's hard to beat the Apogee Duet.

Jim,
I'm sure this is pure nonsense...
I have the same mic for my guitar n stuff(along with a Bluebird and a bunch of 57s & 58's)
Also windows 7 (Cubase)
I use the stock Dell and have a Mackie Onyx Blackjack for my interface
Does mean that I only have 2 inputs though...
But it works wonderfully and the seperate monitor and headphone volume controls I couldn't live without.
Don't know if this helps but that's what I got...

would help to detail how many simultaneous channels you want to record, and what your budget is, and would you consider spending a little more right now to get a long term solution, or do you see yourself upgrading in a year or two anyways?
recording X-Y plus vocals puts you in the next range up $ wise cause most of the more inexpensive interfaces have 2 mic preamps only.
$$$ range matters a lot too.

I upgraded to the RME Babyface last year and I've been very happy with the decision. I think it's noticeably better than the Presonus Firepod I had before it. It allows simultaneous recording on just 2 channels so hopefully that's okay. Apogee Duet seems to be the unanimous high-quality but affordable choice for Mac. From the research I did, the Babyface was the closest thing for Windows.
Hope this helps!
