Hi Everyone,

My old black MacBook is coughing and sneezing, so I'm thinking about getting a new MacBook Pro with Logic Pro X.

If you've made the switch, how do you like it, is it worth it and is the Logic learning curve any easier? Also, do third party plugins like Trillian and Izotope port over easily? I searched on this and couldn't find anything, so thanks for your help!

I absolutely love Logic Pro X! Best upgrade in years, IMO. There are a few things I miss, like custom colors and icons, but the additions - Track Stacks alone - more than make up for it.

You may find people complaining about the look - that's a personal preference. I like the darker look. But I have found LPX to be very solid and a great DAW. I have been using Logic since version 6, and am really comfortable with its "logic". I think out of the box, for someone who has never used Logic, it is easier to setup, but all of the power features are still there.

Thanks for posting this topic, we were wondering about Pro X as well. Is the Drummer feature good enough to use for submissions?

I love the drummer feature. I have used it a lot for tracks that I have submitted to libraries I write for. So far, I haven't had a single return from any of them because of the drums.

Of course, there is a possibility that it can sound like everyone else. But, if you take a bit of care, and do a bit of programming with it, it really sounds great! And, it really speeds up the drum programming.

It's one of my favorite features of the new Logic. Also, I hope that clever third party devs (like spectrasonics, 9Volt audio...) will jump aboard and release new "drummers" expansions. That would be great!

Thanks for the info, I have been considering upgrading from Logic Pro 9 and was wondering if it was worth upgrading.

The only thing holding me back right now is some of my favourite plugins aren't 64 bit compatible yet.
If that isn't an issue you won't regret getting Logic X.

Yes - Logic Pro X did remove the 32 bit bridge. Not that it was that great to begin with. So you'll want to check and see if there are any plugs that are still 32 bit only - that you have to have. For me, all the stuff I use was already 64 bit, so it wasn't an issue.

I've been on Logic since 6 or 7, coming from Cubase before that. I really like Logic Pro X in general and love Drummer. I have used Drummer primarily on instrumental cues and my work flow feels much faster than how I had been building drum tracks in Addictive Drums. I still end up converting the Drummer segments into MIDI segments for a few tweaks, but the tweaks are minor and I feel like I'm more efficient this way.

Really appreciate the info, guys. I bit the bullet and ordered the new Mac. Once it gets here I'll upgrade to Logic Pro X. I'm really interested in testing out Drummer and comparing it to Addictive Drums.
