Headphones ... Your thoughts?

I've been using my old Sennheiser HD 433's for a long time, and really like 'em (for probably ALL the wrong reasons).

Just wondering what would be an affordable step up from them, with a similar design and truer sound?

Thanks,

Heya Peter D'

What makes you think they are not a "true" sound?

The best way to pick out headphones is to take some CD's that you know VERY well to a store, then try the phones out. I did this at Guitar Center. The guy even took headphones out of boxes for me to try. Remember, you aren't going for the ones that make the music sound the best... just the ones that make the music sound "Right."

I bought the Sony MDR-7506 because I liked the sound from top to bottom, and they are comfortable.

BTW, if you want them for tracking vox, you are better off using earbuds so your mic doesn't pick up the bleed.

What's been helpful for me is having a pair of open back as well as closed back cans just to have an extra perspective on the mix. I use Audio Technica ATH M-50's for my closed backs and Prado SR-80's for open backs. I like them both a lot and learn a lot from my mixes by referencing with both. Just like with monitors you need to spend time with your cans and get to know their tendencies so you can make educated choices while mixing.

I agree Ethan.

Picked up the 7506's the other day and I think I like 'em ... They're SUPER fat sounding. MUCH more bass than I expected. Maybe this will guide me with easing the low frequencies a little (generally speaking).

HUGE difference between these and my open backs.

Head-phones and thoughts?
Not sure as they always seem to noisy for me.. can't really hear my thoughts.
Especially not when I turn them up.

Cool :D
Yes, the bass is one reason I bought those... the range seemed much more real down in that area.
However, I don't use them for mixing... I use them to spot check for "oops" things... and to hear what the TAXI screeners will be hearing when they screen my music

i use the sony mdr-v600's ...for some time now ..

but 7506's are real real good too..

if you work with very deep bass tones the v600 really have warmer deeper tone and good sizzle...

great if your in a place where you can make much noise mixing mostly on headphones..

i find the 7506 's have a flatter curve ..so many are fond of that ..

i have both .. i dj with the 7506's cause they get louder to me..

and i would use the v600's in the studio so i dont over do the bass and highs..

I really like my Sennheiser HD280Pros. They are very bright and articulate without being heavy on the low end.
