Hey all,

I'm sure this topic has been done to death, but it's a moving target - always new stuff out there. Of course I'd rather have an actual guitar player who knows how to get tone, etc most of the time, but that's not always practical.

Thanks to regulars on the forum, I found out about Ample guitars - particularly their Taylor VI which is awesome (I think that was Russell - thnx man),, and was wondering if anyone particularly liked any *electric* guitar VIs these days. Either a strat or les paul type is what I have in mind.

People seem to like Shreddage, and Vir2 Electri6ity, but I don't see demos of those. Any thoughts? The Ample electrics don't sound great, but I'm not sure if it's just the demo songs not being so great, or what.

Any thought and observations would be welcomed

I think with the ample electrics you have to bring your own amp, speaker, and effects. That might be why the demos might not sound great to you.

You use the Ample electrics?

I think the problem with the Ample audio demos is that they sound stiff - it's not the sound of the VI, it's the performance. I own the Taylor, and I found that once you learn how to use it, it can sound really good. So maybe it;s the same for the electrics.

I know the amp or amp sim makes a huge difference, but the guitar matters too doesn't it?

Thanks for bringing up this subject even if its been done to death. I had never heard of Ample. Looks like a fascinating product line.

Yes, the Ample acoustics are pretty awesome. They have fully functional (I think) demos, so go grab one if interested. Kind of a learning curve, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Kind of extrapolating on what Len was getting at - the amp or sim is key. You can put well-recorded geese farts on a muggy day through a screaming creamy amp set up, and it is going to sound killer. But I do think the guitar tone and of course the playability of the VI, make a difference too.

I have the Musiclab tele, and it's cool for some things, but..eh.

Thanks for the additional info, Jon. I will share the info with a buddy of mine. He is constantly wanting to play guitar parts on his demos. Alas, he is a keyboard player. Perhaps this will be the solution. Thanks again.

Yeah, I really like the Ample Acoustic stuff... but like you said, I wasn't real impressed with the electric things...Probably the crappy presentation of the demos. (BTW, I promoted Ample Acoustic here, but someone else here in the Forums turned me on to them... can't remember who)

But I think you are right... it really depends on how well you can program or "keyboard" convincingly PLUS the plug-ins/Amp sims you run them through...

I seem to remember a VI called Slayer that was pretty F-ing killer right out of the box. Don't know if it is still out there.

thanks Russell. I'm going to consider investing in a new amp sim. I have Peavey ReValver, which is pretty great sounding, but it's 32 bit only. I know it's a small thing, but I get tired of going back to Logic 9, and in 32 bit mode, just to use ReValver. Spoiled I guess...

Guitar Rig 5 works well for me.
