I'm looking for a good stage synth that I can use when performing live with my band. I've taken a good look at Nord, Roland, and few others. I am primarily looking at one that can also replace a piano, so a full 88-key synth (with a good piano sound) would be ideal. Budget is $1000 but I still welcome any good models that fall outside that range.

If there are no 88-key synths within that budget, are they're smaller keyboards that are equally as effective?

I was happy with my Korg Kronos on stage, but missed the sounds of Roland. I would recommend either the Korg Kronos or the Roland Fantom.

I have a Korg SV1, and it's great for pianos and vintage keys. (every classic stage piano is represented very well; Rhodes, Wurli, Clav, Mellotron, even a Hohner Pianet) It has some organ, horn and string sounds, too but it's not really a 'do it all' sort of axe; it just sounds, feels and looks really great. If you need analog leads and basses as well as all the classic keys, what Russell said.

I have a Yamaha MOX8 ( new model is MOXF) bought a few years ago and it has to my ear excellent piano organ and a few other surprises.. Currently using it with my party band and can't find a sound that can't be used somehow.. Also can be used as a midi controller.. weighted keys as well..

a used one should be in your range.. I would look for used sales otherwise it's around $1400...

Casio's PX-5S is a pretty good 88 key candidate in that price range, too.
