Sweetwater is doing a January sale and I noticed a few software packages that I thought might be useful, but I don't really know what's worth getting and what's not. Anything essential here?

Hi!
It depends on what you're after.
But, you can never go wrong with Waves (EQ, Compressors, Reverbs and so on...).

I use Toontrack a lot, blend it with other drum software. But, some prefer Addictive Drums more. Think it's a matter of taste.

Are waves plug-ins compatible with most DAWs? I'm just using GarageBand at the moment. If it wouldn't be of much benefit I may wait until I outgrow GB.

Addictive Drums 2 at $99 is a pretty sweet deal, plus there's a similarly-priced rock and metal version that nets you the excellent Fairfax Vol 1 kit. T-Racks is very cool for $38. Waves L2 Ultramaximizer at $119...and this right here https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/bxRefine is one of my secret weapons; it'll knock harshness out of anything.

I don't recall whether Apple removed GB's third-party plugin limitation; thought it just used AU format plugs.
