As some of you know I recently got an iPad and am eager to find some cool music related apps for it. I'm mostly interested in:


- apps that would let me quickly capture song or instrumental ideas while on the go, either acoustically or via some kind of virtual keyboard/VI, and save them for later so I won't forget

- apps for beat creation or the like to produce beats or beds while not in the studio, which I could later import into my DAW or Recycle for slicing and import into e.g. Stylus RMX

- any type of new instruments/synths which use the multi touch interface in innovative ways, either for sound manipulation or riff/lick recording

- control surface or remote control apps to use in the studio


In other words, apps that work as useful tools for the professional composer/songwriter, not gee whiz stuff that's essentially useless and only serves to show off 'how cool' the iPad is...


If you have any favorite non music apps that you can't live without feel free to post about those as well.

iPhone apps that also work on the iPad are welcome, although I'm most interested in stuff that takes full advantage of the iPad's bigger display...

Check out the latest issue of Electronic Musician. They have a listing of iPad and iPhone apps that they like.

If I had an iPad, I'd probably get the Korg Electribe first. ReBirth is a lot of fun too.

There's an iPhone/iPad app called ProChords. It's not the most serious music creation tool but I love playing around with it.

Mine arrive tomorrow.

I'll be watching this post and contributing, as I plan on trying out as many apps as I can.

Ah excellent Bryan, I need another iPad compadre. Usually that gear...uhm...hound mazz can be counted on for such things but not in this case...

Speaking of iPhone apps, in case you haven't heard, the band Gorillaz (from my avatar you may think they are related to me but they're not ) are releasing an album recorded solely on an iPad while they are on the road touring... The entire album can be downloaded for free from their website on Christmas day. Here is a link to an article in Rolling Stone about it.

Matto, mine came in last night. It's a hoot! I'm still playing around with it and apps so haven't found a ton of music specific stuff yet.

But, check out flipbook. Turns your facebook into a magazine. Really great idea.

Music: I don't know if you use ableton at all but if so, there is an incredible remote for it called touchable. I bought that tonight and played with it for a while. It's extremely deep in its control. Really fun and very powerful!

Cubase has a remote control app. It's iphone and limited, but free and works.

Bebot is just a ton of fun. I've recorded with it on the iphone. Not too much depth, but a ton of fun to play.

More to come. I'm gonna start researching. I hear the Korg synth is really good. Search korg and you'll see it.

"iHarmony" is a great reference tool for me. The new "TAXI Music" app is also useful.
