So I was limping along with G-Snap, cuz I don't need to tune, I can just sing it again, only better this time, right? Right, but that approach won't work for everybody, and let's face it, some clients can get a mite difficult after about the fifth take. (some of 'em are gathering mental butterflies after half of one, but I digress) One of my clients in particular is a genius songwriter, but juuust pitch and rhythm challenged enough to be completely impossible in the studio, despite being a terrific performer. Until I got Melodyne. Within its limitations, it can fix dang near anything, without anyone knowing. This minute, I've got a grin wide enough to break my face, because with just a little work, luck and (maybe more than a little) editing, a uniquely gifted and deserving soul is gonna have a career. (and my job just got a lot easier, too) I really shoulda bought this thing sooner.

Are you using Melodyne Bridge or Melodyne Studio?

+1 on Melodyne. It's killer!
I have the Cre8 version (I do consider upgrading..) and don't use it that often, as I kinda like the autotune effect for cont. country, adult cont. and singer/songwriter material, but sometimes I get in deep and use Melodyne. It can do so much more than just pitch correct too, it's really an awesome allround audio editor. I wouldn't do without it.

Love it! ... I'm using a free version that came with PT.

+1 - there is so much more to it than pitch correction, and I like the idea you said Mojo 'bout no one having to know.

Yeah, the wife and I had a discussion about whether to tell the clients.....

I've never tried it Mojo...it looks like there's an editor, studio, assistant and essential version.
Which one do you recommend?

If viagra is needed, does anybody even hesitate? (not that I have that problem with my age)

I use it (melodyne) for the bad notes. Yeah you migh have hit ten in a row that were spot on. I have trouble with those three notes just before the big chorus. Like viagra....getting up there.

Tweak those suckers and be done with. Do you really want to sound like crap?

If you don't want it perfect, set it for 90% correction etc.

At the same time I hit all the amplitudes of the vox just like a compressor would.

Also my bass guitar. Sometimes on a funky run, the notes get off. (Yes I check them all)

I have not purchased the updated package that will correct the bad notes in a chord or fast run yet. I think they wanted another $75 bucks?

I have heard lots of guys say they would not stoop to that, but i can hear alot of off notes on their vox's too.

The only thing negative might be if you can't get within one note. Stop singing then.

One last thing. I know I have it set up wrong, but for every individual recording made, melodyne has stored that info. I have thousands of tracks in melodyne now. Bet there is a way to get around that. Not me, I will just get a larger hard drive again:)

The way I see it:
If the client can't even tell if you have altered their performance...I doubt if they will be able to hear the improvement.

I have Essential, but I'll be upgrading to a version with the new DNA technology, cuz it occurs to me that I also work a lot with a slightly wobbly keys player.....

My DAW has some unique features for working with Melodyne; it's kinda goofy, cuz you have to load your track, or portions thereof, into Melodyne; in Tracktion, I can just drop Melodyne onto a clip, load it, tune it, render the track, done. (I work on a copy of the original, even though I have nigh-infinite undo, jes' how I roll) It can glitch, if you're not careful about finding good edit points. I do a phrase at a time.

The artist I referred to in my OP is a jazzy and extremely dynamic singer who uses scoops, swoops and very wide intervals to produce an intensely emotional effect, but needs a little help in the accuracy department. (somewhat reminiscent of Rickie Lee Jones, but more pop-oriented) With Melodyne's auto correct functions, I can correct separately for accuracy and pitch drift-absolutely a godsend, because I can leave the amazing character of the tracks intact, and jes' nudge the notes out of 'egregious' territory. Brilliant! (and there's also a much more detailed manual mode)

Y'all really ought to hear this; I'll see if there's a way to temporarily post an excerpt from a rehearsal or a bonus track.
