What is a good woodwinds VSTI that uses Kontakt or any sampler really. Im a little out of touch on good orchestra stuff.

I've got LA Scoring Stings and I want to add some woodwinds.

Well, if you hang out a little while longer, Cinewinds is on the horizon. I use some of the tutti patches out of Hollywoodwinds occasionally to deepen a mix but I don't write for winds as such (not yet anyway) so I can't recommend anything. Check out VI-Control forum and see what's popular there.

I don't have a lot of WW libraries, but I really like the WestGate instruments. I just picked them up a bit ago, and still learning how to make them sound realistic, but so far I am really liking them.

I also have Hollywood WInds, which work nice for Tutti and effects stuff. I think they are great for filler, but, as many have said, I wouldn't want them as my only library. I also have the VSL winds included with Kontakt 4. They work ok, but not my favorite -which is why I picked up the WestGates. I only have the Solo instruments now, but I will be getting the ensembles next time I purchase WW.

I am working on a piece now that will use WG stuff heavily. I will post when finished and you can take a listen.

Cheers -
kc

I almost never use the ensemble patches from Westgate, but I use the solo instruments all the time. For large orchestral sounds, I'll use the solo instruments blended in with ensemble patches or with a HollywoodWinds tutti or chord patch. The bassoon and bass clarinet are particularly nice!!

I like the chords in HollywoodWinds, they are voiced correctly and work great as soft pads or light accents in a fuller texture. I tend to not feature them but I do use their runs from time to time. Mixed with the Westgate runs, they are very effective.

I hope SampleModeling tackles orchestral winds, their saxophones are really awesome and they'd do a great job on flutes, oboes, clarinets and bassoons.

I was hoping you would weigh in. I take every recommendation you give. I have all the sample modeling. But I cant get it to do a really good jazz sax like bending and that really good jazzy tone. But for everything else they are the best. I will check out west gate. I never heard of it.

And I take it for orchestra Brass you like Hollywood Brass?
