I know there are at least a few Greek folks on the forums (Panos, you there?) so I figured this might be of interest to them and anyone interested in writing Mediterranean music. It's a new library called "Plectra Series 1: 8-string Acoustic Bouzouki", designed by Dimitris Plagiannis and performed/recorded IN Greece. This is the real deal!

Basically, this is a $59 Kontakt 4+ library that samples the bouzouki in great detail. Hammer-ons, pull-offs, legato or polyphonic playing, chords, round robins, dynamics, tremolo, string-switching, up/down strokes, multiple mic positions and intelligent scripting. It's every bit as detailed as a modern library should be, but is incredibly easy to play on top of that. Check out these demos to hear it in action:

You can pick up Plectra Series 1 for $59 here:

I personally love the sound of the bouzouki and have used it on a variety of production and album tracks before, so I was thrilled to see Dimitris really doing it justice with this library. You can use it for world music of course, but also as a harmony or lead instrument for rock, pop, film, TV or game scores.

Hope you enjoy and get some use out of it!

Mmmm, Tzatziki! This sounds awesome! I hear Bouzouki a lot in Balkan pop here, so I could imagine using this for both ethnic pop styles, Bollywood cues and much more.

Might also make me interested in playing midi guitar again. I have a Godin with synth access and an Axon midi interface, but have learned to dabble keys enough to make it almost obsolete. But an instrument like this calls for it.. Do you know the Gtak system, Andrew? That could be relevant for a VI like this http://evenharmonic.com/products/gtak

Can't wait till your shot on Pedal Steel! :D

If anyone wants authentic food recipes-I'm your man!

Let's do the zorba dance!
