Lookin' for sympathy...

Hello! :)

I can't get my new superego+ pedal to connect to my m-audio hammer 88 and ebx expression pedal. I'm running it through a Focusrite interface and using ProTools and Keyscape.

I can get Keyscapes to work on my monitor, but it acts like the superego+ is not connected at all.

This is the first time I've used an expression pedal. I've got all the in-out parts lined up, so it SHOULD work. Oh well.

Does anyone know where I could find a diagram of how to connect everything?

Anyone know if the output from Keyscapes has to be routed back outside the DAW to go back to the superego+ ? I doubt this question even makes any sense without a diagram.

It's an experience problem, but I'm hitting a wall.

Thanks!

Your problem is a little bit blurry. Are you having trouble hooking up your expression pedal, or is it the EHX Superego+ pedal that is the issue?

And if it is the superego, is it the audio routing you have trouble mapping out, or does the pedal have a midi functionality you are working to hook up?

Without further clarification, you seem to try to hook up an audio pedal to a midi setup, which will not work because midi does not transfer any sound. So to get an audio pedal working, it needs a sound source for you to be able to route audio through it.

If it is the sounds from Keyscape you want effected by the superego, you need to record a track with Keyscape in your daw, and afterwards send that track out into the superego pedal (and then back into your daw again on a new track), for the audio can be effected. So the superego needs a sound source to work with. Midi only will not provide that. This means the superego will function as an external fx unit, that you patch into your daw (like a mixer unit). The superego will not work in a midi chain alone, because it will only produce sound if it is fed with an audio signal.

If your problem is hooking up an expression pedal to your midi keyboard, there should be a trs jack for it on the back. Check if the jack is in fact trs (tip, ring, sleeve), as if the cable is only tr (tip, ring) it wont work.

To clarify further, can you provide links to the units you try to hook up? That may help to identify exactly what the issue is.

Hey, thanks!

You're right, the original problem was that I was trying to put the Super Ego + in the midi effects chain.

I was told I could not use the Super Ego + as an FX on recorded audio, but I suspect that you are correct & once there is recorded audio headed out to a speaker, the Super Ego + should work.

Thanks for getting back to me!

At the moment, I've got the Super Ego + hooked up on a digital keyboard with audio out. I'm still having problems with it, but that's an experience thing. I'm using the controller with Keyscapes separately.

I appreciate the sympathy. It takes a while to figure out how to use the equipment.

Best! :)

Especially since I'm looking for sympathy because of my super ego! :)

Yes ... create a send/return ... you can even assign the return as an FX track so the sourcetrack is unaffected and blend the two using a bus track ... just imagine the mixer is a large console ... that is the beauty of Pro-Tools ...
