Room Noise In The Taxi Show

Just a suggestion:

It probably wouldn't take that many absorbers on the walls in the room where the Taxi show is broadcast to make everything sound better. I hear a lot of room echo in the video audio. It wouldn't have to be like a major studio project, just a few cheap absorbers, most likely on walls opposite highly reflective material, like glass.

Hey Dave!
On the U-stream feed there wasn't the echo but now with Youtube I hear it a bit too...
I was thinking that it might be caused by a Youtube upload glitch???
In other words I don't think it's a room echo... I'll listen closely today!
The Hiss is ML's processor fan trying to turn his laptop into a flying drone
Can't absorb that since it is located near the mic
Today will be a great show with Robin!!!

The broadcast is effective and I don't think they really wish to focus or be distracted by those things at this time, at least that's what I've surmised from past replies. I get it. The broadcast is to be informative and not so much a slick production. It seems like when I start out on a task that seems to be quite small, I often end up going down a rabbit hole.

There are probably more reflections coming from the desk and computer screen that are more noticeable than the walls in the room, and then also using an omni computer mic.

The hiss helps it sound more like tape. A retro analog feel. 8-)

Hey Len!
I agree 100%
The Ustream feed was so glitchy/buffery that I would often stop watching out of frustration
The Youtube feed runs way better for me and the Hiss does feel Retro :D
I am on a Satellite Internet up here in the Mountains so I don't have the fastest bandwidth...

It's probably that I didn't have my volume 100% down on my laptop. The room isn't that reflective. And the hiss is fan noise from Wirecast pushing the CPU on my laptop so hard. We're not the only people using it to experience that, and I've researched fixes. With the Rally 10 days away, I just don't have the time to spend a few hours to experiment with different settings to see if we can eliminate it. I worked 10 hours on Saturday and 11.75 hours on Sunday. The fan noise/CPU heat issue will get solved a week or two after the Rally. Nothing is easy or works like it should. One step forward, .75 steps back. :(

best,
Michael

Tonight's show was awesome, room noise or no. I didn't notice quite as much this week, either, so things are getting better. I learned so much this time, and Robin gave me tons of ideas on new songs I can write from the emotions in the one song. <3 Thanks again for choosing my song to review this time!

It's homework I can use. I relistened to the end of it on SoundCloud yesterday. Just so many great ideas Robin has, about how I can delve more deeply into the ideas behind the song. Truly awesome.

I think simply adding an external mic will fix most of this issue. I normally don't recommend USB mics for any serious music recording, but that could be just the ticket, here. You just need to get the mic a few feet from the fan and make sure it doesn't have too much presence 'lift'.
