My First Placement

Post by ChrisD » Wed Sep 11, 2013 6:02 pm

Well, after a couple of years and a bunch of forwards I got my first library placement the other day. It's a rock/techno instrumental piece. It's for a really guitar intensive library. I'm pretty pumped about it!

AND, the library wants to hear more songs. So, my question is this: Do I just send him links to my Taxi hosting page or do I burn him songs and send a cd? How many songs do I send?

That's great Chris!
I've always sent them up to 3 song links that go directly to my soundcloud OR an mp3 attachment by email. I'd check with the library first cause I know some of them really don't like the mp3 attachments cause it takes up their mailbox space.
Good luck!

Congrats Chris!!!

yeah Briand has got a good point - people don't like to get their inboxes filled up with mp3s.

what I find works for me (and I have read about people recommending it too) is sending two links:

one to stream the music. like say a link to the actual song on your soundcloud page.
another to download the music if they like it - could be to a Dropbox, or yousend it, or Box.net.

I would send as many pieces as i had that really fit the brief of what they were looking for - but Briand also has a good point there. they might prefer smaller batches so they can just get through it. 3 at a time is probably cool, then if they want more, you can keep on repeating.

Thanks everybody, and I took the SoundCloud advice but I went with 4 songs. Hopefully I'll be placing more soon!

Congrats! I think soundcloud is the way to go. If they want to download copies, then, as Andy said, Dropbox or Box works well.

cheers -

Thanks again everyone. Further good news: They want to sign 4 more of my songs!

It's taken a couple of years, but with the help of Taxi, it's screeners and other resources I feel good about my writing and my production. To say I've learned a lot here is a massive understatement.
