Success By The Numbers for 2014

Well, I haven't done much "number checking" lately on my music career, but as a teacher I know that it helps my students achieve when they have a quantifiable goal and ways to measure their progress.

So, with that said, I'm going to lay out some numbers and letters for this year (and my active participation in Taxi starting in November of 2012).

200% increase in royalties received from 2012-2013 to 2013-2014 (That COULD be .50 cents to $1, but it's STILL an increase, right?) :)
100 Track registered with ASCAP
80+ Tracks signed to libraries
44 ASCAP Confirmed Placements (Reality TV to Documentary to indie films)
20 Forwards since 2013 Rally (a great boost)
19 Returns since 2013 Rally (a great education)
7 deals signed with Music Libraries
6 Network Placements (including The Mindy Project, Game of Arms, and All My Children)
Several personal relationships direct with Music Supervisors
A ton of great friends and professionals to work with and bounce ideas off of. (Priceless)

It's been a great couple of years.
An even better year than the one before.

I cannot put a price on the friendships I've made and advice I've received.
Thanks, Taxi!
Thanks, Michael!

Sincerely,

Steven Wesley Guiles

Thanks for sharing the stats Steven. Great job! Certainly beneficial and inspiring to see the placements and progress over time.

Yeah. I do think it's important to look and see if there's growth at some point, or else we're just spinning our wheels with no direction or purpose.

I don't like to dwell in the numbers world and I know if I were hyper-vigilant I'd probably be aware of other placements or deals, but I'm also a full-time middle school teacher and father of three...so, somethings have to give sometimes. :)

I'm sure next year will be even better!!

Congratulations!

Congrats! I'm also a full time teacher (17 years) and TAXI hookups/TV placements have become a really nice side business for me. Keep it up!

This sounds very well disciplined. That's a recent goal I've added to the top of my list. In hindsight, once I got a few forwards I got excited and started throwing more at the wall and had about half of your forwards ratio with double the submissions.

Great job.

Michael

Michael,

I think I've done that as well, but in general I think I'm starting to get better at targeting my submissions.
I've also been submitting directly to other libraries and opps outside of Taxi, but Taxi is like my homebase for support and education. I really have experienced nothing like this in all my years doing music professionally. A great organization.

Now, I HAVE found that when I write a great new song (imho) I oversubmit it to listings because I think it's so amazing.
I really need to stop doing that. :)
