Why I Think You SHOULD Pitch for the BIG LISTINGS

So, I've gone back in forth in my mind. Should I even attempt to pitch to a listing that='s $10,000 and up?

For a long time I thought it was a bad idea. "No one gets those" I said to myself.

But I think this line of thinking is what was holding me back. Now when I see those listings, I look to see if it's something that's in my wheelhouse and if it is I go for it.

I think THOSE listings, the big paying ones, are the ones that we should ALL strive for.

Why? It's the best of the best. A company/agency is willing to pay big cash to have a song that enhances their product/scene/vibe/whatever. The sample music for these listings is top quality stuff. Really, really good songs.

Those songs are our best teachers.
I can't tell you how many Taxi listings have prompted me to write a song that I would NEVER have written.

So, all that to say the other day one of the music libraries I met via friends here at Taxi had a BIG listing. I decided to go for it.
My song was forwarded for a huge opportunity!
Unfortunately it wasn't chosen by the client.

But I see this as a WIN. A very good company, who I now have a relationship with because of my Taxi membership, feels my music is strong enough to pitch to a very large client!

AFTER all was said and done this company approached me to sign the track because they felt it was strong enough to pitch to other clients!

I now have a signed track I am very proud of and I have forged a great relationship with an amazing library.

Win/Win/Win.

So I say, swing for the fences as often as possible, because YOU will be the stronger and wiser for it.
And heck, you can't win if you don't get in the game.

Peace,

Steve

p.s. Sorry I don't post in the forums much. I'm much more on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram these days. But I do owe a great deal to these awesome forums that helped me "get there".

That's fantastic perspective, Steven. I like that you look beyond the scope of the opportunity itself and look at the big picture for learning and unintended, unforeseen opportunities.
