I got my first deal! Thanks Taxi!

Hey everyone. I was also contacted for the Access Hollywood listing and got my first contract via email over the weekend. I noticed a few people were also contacted for this listing, so congrats to you guys as well!

I'm pretty psyched more than anything because I had a really rough patch, going almost 2 years since my first couple of forwards.
I struggled quite a bit. I attended the Rally last year and learned a lot, loved it... Then I got back in the studio, beefed up my software/equipment, submitted a couple reworked songs and still got more returns. I just needed something to motivate me to keep going, because I was starting to consider throwing in the towel. But I kept trying, and finally got a couple forwards, and that charged me right back up. Then for the entertainment listing, I went 1 for 3, and that 1 led to the deal... (Thanks, screener #53!)
I'm finally starting to build confidence and I hope this leads to some actual placements...

Anyway, I learned a lot from just reading the forums, attending the Rally, and practicing... And now finally I can contribute to the forum by simply advising anyone who is thinking of quitting to just keep trying... If I had quit, I wouldn't have gotten a deal! :D

Gio,

Congrats on the deal.

I heard someone say at the Rally that building a catalog is a marathon, not a sprint. ;)

I think you may have started the first mile of your marathon. Keep in the race. After a while there are more opportunities than you can get to and there is a momentum that keeps you in motion.

Chuck

Great news!!

I was listening to an interview today, with hit country songwriter Allen Shamblin on the Music Row Show.
He too, almost threw in the towel after feeling like he was getting nowhere.

This was just before he wrote his smash hit "He Walked On Water" recorded by Randy Travis.

This was his turning point. The couple years spent: 'feeling like he was getting nowhere, writing un-inspiring songs' was in fact
a period where he was LEARNING THE CRAFT.He just didn't know it.

As most marathon runners will tell you: " The hardest part of the race is the last 30-40 yards ".

Continued success to you

glad to hear it! ... Still waiting for my first deal and not about to give up just yet. I had 2 tunes forwarded to this listing and it's nice to see that they are still handing out the deals. Gives me a bit of hope :)

Congrats!

Hey Chuck! Thanks and yeah that sure sounds familiar ;) Again, great class you ran 7 months ago. Getting the right mindset definitely goes a long way... And of course, one goal leads to another. Getting the deal is great. The next goal is the first placement.

Jeff- thanks man...

Anthony, I can understand that. And I guess I also see that part of 'learning the craft' as you mentioned obviously involves trying to learn the business stuff too. I was pretty happy that I understood the clauses in the contract that I received and feel comfortable with it- again thanks to the guys on the forum. It's good to try to be as prepared as possible...

KC, thanks alot...

Vincent, thanks. It's weird because I'm not typically one to post on forums in general, for some reason. But these forums are different. They've helped me so much that if I can say something that may be of value to anyone, then why not...

Bob, I hope you get contacted too dude. Apparently they need a lot of material, so who knows. Either way, keep doing your thing... As long as you keep trying and focusing, getting a deal will be a matter of 'when' not 'if'...
