TAXI Member Gets the Vitamin Commercial!

I'm very proud to let you know that TAXI member Wayne Tester beat out the top ad music houses in NY to land the "vitamin" TV spot. My brain is mush having just gotten off a red eye flight, but if memory serves, I THINK 27 members were forwarded, 13 members were played for the agency's creative team, 4 were played for their client, 2 made it into the "semi finals" competing with the top NY guys, then it was down to Wayne and one NY pro. Wayne Won!!

Congratulations to Wayne! Now the ad will go into a round of market testing to see if it ultimately airs.

So that's all the good news. The bad news is that a TAXI member who couldn't get his renewal to go through over the weekend the listing was running got frustrated and posted the agency's copyrighted lyrics on (you guessed it!) YouTube with his music (albeit on a private page you could only get to from our forum). We caught it and the member took it down very quickly, but we had to disclose it to the folks in NY, so we are not allowed to run several MORE listings that would have come from what could be a series of spots for the same product. We are still in good standing with the agency, but Wayne is the only member allowed to pitch for the upcoming spots. They actually INSISTED that Wayne submit for the next spot(s).

I'm happy for Wayne. He ended up doing 6 or 7 revisions on VERY tight schedules, and he was a total pro throughout the entire process. Wayne and TAXI are under a non-disclosure, so we really can't say much more until the spot (hopefully) makes it through testing and ultimately airs. Sadly, I think our days of having members pitch to SCRIPTED pitches are now over thanks to the less than wonderful actions of just one person.

But the important thing is that Wayne did a great job and the agency is impressed by what our members submitted! That makes 4 TAXI members who have landed TV commercials in 4 months. :D :D :D

seriously, what ever happened to professionalism and even common sense? People are so wrapped up in their own world they forget to look outside themselves and see a bigger picture. Things that you post anywhere online can come back to haunt you - and issue in consequences for you and others. It all can cause a ripple effect.

I can certainly understand being angry at how things turn out. I can maybe understand a feeling of needing to speak you mind - especially in this era of easy communication. But you have to be able to step back, take deep breaths and realize that around every corner is another opportunity for each one missed.

anyway - huge congrats to Wayne. I hope the commercial airs and is very successful for both Wayne and the advertiser.

cheers
kc

Congrats to Wayne!! 8-) :D  That's an awesome accomplishment for Wayne and for Taxi!!

As for the guy who put that stuff on youtube... May he itch where he can't reach!

ML, I hope you find a way down the road to present these opps without as much risk that something like this will happen. I'm not sure what that way is but maybe in 2.0 there can be some additional terms one must agree to when submitting to certain listings and if they violate the terms TAXI will go after them legally. That would need to be spelled out clearly at time of submission. Would it deter ALL idiots? Probably not. But maybe 90% or more of the moron squad.

Best,
:) Casey

I'm not sure I understand. Was this a listing where the company provided the lyrics for their ad and the TAXI members submitted their ideas for melody/music for the lyrics? Is that what ML meant by "SCRIPTED" pitches?

Hey Nick
The agency had provided specific lyrics to be set to music along with other requirements. So, yes-- that would be a scripted pitch. Sadly, one person got frustrated because he couldn't get his renewal through at the speed of light over a weekend, and did something very foolish. He put a video on youtube with his cue, the text of the Taxi listing, and the lyrics from the ad agency. He posted the link here along with his statement of disgruntlement-- that was take down quickly to protect the copyrighted material.

Congrats again to Wayne!!! :)

CONGRATS WAYNE!!!!!!!

WELL DONE..... Best wishes that the commercial gets thru all the premarket tests....

I'm buying tar and feathers for the other guy (LOL)...
Perhaps for scripted commercials in the future, TAXI can post the listing, but to be able to get to the script and/or submit, the Taxi member would have to click on a non-disclosure agreement to proceed. Just a thought!

Very happy for you Wayne!

Bob
