Avatar issues

Since the new format, I've noticed lots of frequent posters here whose photo avatars are now gone. Just the big question-mark thing.
Today, what had been working as recently as yesterday - was not there today.
Attempts to fix it were fruitless, though I went through the FAQs previously addressing this problem.
Any NEW info, hints, how to get things back to the way they were? With same old face-foto?

Mine is still with me, so I'm not sure of the problem.
I host mine with my ISP and it's the right size for the forum.

I myself went through quite a bit of heck getting mine back.
It appears that many third-party hosting websites have changed their requirements/protocols for at least their free accounts.
What I finally did was go to imgur.com and created a new free account, uploaded, linked and it worked just great.

I am a newbie I am just doing a test post to see if my avatar will show up correctly. Sorry nothing to see here except for me checking my first post. This is just a test.

Does anybody know of any particular reason why Avatars can't be uploaded directly into our forum user panel? I have the option but it doesn't do anything when I click.

I was surprised at the difficulty of adding an image/ avatar. I also wondered why you can't just upload an image. THe process for uploading mp3s on the TAXI site is easy. Seems like uploading a tiny image would be even easier. I put an image in a Dropbox folder and tried to link to it and got an error message. There is an option to choose from a gallery or some stock images, but when I tried that there were no image to choose from. Surprisingly difficult. - Roger Y
