I never heard anyone criticise Beck's Loser for not being tight enough. For the future I'm going to start work on a fusion of Skip James Blues and break beats soon....just as soon as the baby starts sleeping full nights

Everything nowadays is all "GANGSTA" like, all I ever hear is mis-pronounced words and the over-use of the word Bruv..hahahahahaI think an Austrian one would be more like"det iz funnaiye"P.s. there's no excuse for the bad teeth - just kidding... now I'm just winding you up

I get how the vinyl experience is more involving, how you have to concentrate to make sure the record doesn't skip when it' time to turn it over, you can't go stomping around the room; the tactile experience, the beautiful and creative packaging and artwork, etc. I believe that under the very best circumstances; a great mix well-mastered, tremendous attention to detail during the manufacturing process, the finest recording and reproduction equipment, etc-vinyl can indeed sound very, very good. But having done some restoration work and listened to thousands of hours of music in decades' worth of formats, I think I'm on pretty firm ground when I state that any person who claims that vinyl is a "peak" listening experience is eitherA: deafB: ignorantC: trying to sell you some vinyl, orD: entranced by vinyl's "charming" flaws and idiosyncrasies.(which I could go on about, but I'll spare you)Digital recording has only recently caught up with analog magnetic tape in terms of achievable sound quality and to date, tape demonstrates superior longevity. (although it, too, has flaws and idiosyncrasies)So, am I ditching my DAW for a pack of razorblades?Nuh-uh. But I do keep some analog decks in various formats around; honestly, it's mostly for the restoration work. So why do I have over 300 vinyl records?A: I have an admiration for the astounding artistry involved in making such a fiendishly difficult process produce a musical resultB: I have an appreciation for the art of the album side (and a concurrent nostalgia for the days when I actually had time to listen to said side-back when flocks of mighty-winged pterodactyls fairly blotted out the very sun itself...)C: The wide availability (at .75 a pop) of some of the greatest musical works of the twentieth centuryD: I have a deep respect for and a desire to hear said music as it was intended to be heard, and not as some random yet well-meaning digital re-mastering engineer may interpret itE: I have the means to reproduce said music rather well, on equipment of the period, which, when used to amplify modern music sounds superior to 95% of what's commonly available to today's consumer.I hope that this thirty-three and a third re-revolution means that folks are tired of listening to crappy MP3s on crappy earbuds and are yearning for the sublime musical experience of Hi-Fi-too bad vinyl only comes close.

I don't know if vinyl IS superior to the best modern digital recording mediums at the highest bitrates and sample rates, but I just did my own archiving project, and vinyl records in really good shape sound fantastic.I bought a new Grado Prestige Red cartrdige, put it on a top-notch Sony turntable, plugged it into a fine Marantz phono pre-amp, bought the best Gold CD-Rs on the market, and recorded the LPs on a professional Marantz real-time CD recorder.I tell ya, maybe I AM deaf, but to my ears the results are spectacular! I haven't heard such frequency response, depth, and clarity on ANY commercial CD. I may have spent $1+ on each CD-R, but that's a LOT less money than buying commercial CDs!Squids --- tell everybody I ain't lying! I sent her a CD-R of a Derek & the Dominos live recording from about 1972, and it sounds like a million bucks. --- Back me up here, Squidsy! Another vinyl LP that just blew me away was "Innervisions" by Stevie Wonder. Wow, does that sound amazing!Ern

I'm an ECM fanatic and I can tell you that, personally, I don't think you can beat the sound of the original european pressings of those recordings from the 70's and 80's. Sorry, even though CD's are a fine listening experience, as well as way more convenient, I still can't believe how good those records sound! And Ibanez, if you inherited any old original Blue Notes, hold on those records!!! They are worth a lot in some circles.Mewman
