Thanks to everyone who weighed in! I ended up downloading BFD Eco because I figured for 30 bucks it's worth a try. If it's too limited I will try AD. So far I can't get any sound out of BFD (using Reaper) and am scouring the BFD forums for the solution.

",,,I'm using BFD Eco with Reaper.. Sorry I can't help with GB, but in Reaper and Mixcraft (Windows GB clone), you have to add BFD Eco as an effect to the Midi track in order for it to play.. Also you have to specify a drum kit (unless you have a default one).. that threw me for a loop when I could 'see' the hits but had no sound in Eco..."

I found this, I'm not familiar with reaper though.

I like Steven Slate for modern, really slick rock productions. The kick and snare are just so in the pocket it gives your mix that CLA sound without even trying hardly. I like Addictive for everything else like indie and retro stuff.

I think Ocean Way and Steven Slate are in a sort of "premixed" category, although I think the updated versions of SSD are a mixture, and the rest might be a little more tweakable, but probably not a whole lot. Did I really say anything? lol!

Hi.
I just bought Addictive Drums based on what I had read from guys on here and so far it has blown me away.
I am migrating away from using my old Boss Dr 880 into a Yamaha AW16 G to using a DAW and AD, and so far, I love it!
Regards
Steve

Hello,

I have been using Addictive Drums for a couple of years now and a couple of AdPaks for less time. Now I just got 4 more AdPaks but I think I'm questioning the Real Machine AdPak if the sounds are contemporary enough. As far as the acoustic kits go they always sound great to me but would using Element be better for drums? It uses a track per part rather than a Kit per instrument but it may be what's happening. Has anyone used the Real Machine AdPak such as the 808 or 909. Which ones do y'all use or are there certain ones that are your favorite? I'm wondering if this AdPak or otheres of these are synthetic. Also, sometimes it's what you put with it as far as plugins go such as does anyone use Waves? I notice that using Universal Audio gets a better response.

808 and 909 are drum machines from Roland, so yes they are "synthetic" or electronic versus acoustic drums.

Do you mean the Waves signature series for drums plugins? They're more of a drum preset mixing tool, I would suppose their intent was geared more toward acoustic drums.

Electronic or acoustic drums would have much to do with the genre.

I use Waves Gold I'm I like the flexibility of some of the signature series but, I think there cool. I use Ond Knob Series Element and Center. I think I probably over use them and that can cause synthetic. What I did on a project was double with an acoustic kit. But if I'm correct by making an instrument in Logic's environment, you have a series connection. They would be wired that way and separate tracks would goes into the output in parallel.

The Reel Machines pack was made to give people the vintage electronic drums, not contemporary hip hop and dance drums. That being said, I use the 808 hats and snares in almost all of my hip hop tracks, the 909 hats in most of my dance tracks, and I sometimes use the kicks in dance tracks as well as layering the kicks in with indie rock that has that retro 80's vibe. Another useful technique is to layer the Linn kick drum (cut a lot of the low end) underneath an acoustic bass drum for rock tracks. The Linn kick will give you a nice poppy beater sound that cuts through the mix while the acoustic kick will keep it from sounding synthetic and provide the low end. Its a great trick for addictive drums as some of the kicks, while great sounding, are a little too floppy for my taste and can sometimes get washed out in a dense mix.

I've definitely gotten my moneys worth from the Reel Machines pack, although I do have to admit that I was slightly disappointed that there weren't some more contemporary sounds in it. But, like I said, thats not what they were trying to do with Reel Machines.

I've used Reel Machines on a few electronic tracks that get quite a bit of usage on Access Hollywood. It works.
