Warning about macs(Apple)
I just thought I would take a moment to make my friends at Taxi aware of a problem I am experiencing with my Mac G5 duel core 2.3.I was advised by a friend that Logic/Logic Express is a great piece of software (which it is) and that I should get it.The only problem is it only runs on Apple Mac computers.I bought an Mac with peripherals which cost me £3100 ($6000) approx,I have to admit the machine itself and the software were great and I was just beginning to get the hang of it.Then, three months in,it just stopped working, won't switch on,I phoned Macs "on line support" they told me my time limit of 90 days was up,........it isn't and that they would talk to me for £35 ($70)approx.needless to say I declined the offer and am now about to sue the company. After a Google search in about ten seconds I had found at least forty other Macs with the same and worse problems with their power supply. Some were blowing up!!So friends,BEWARE.I wish I had taken your advice Matto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mick.

Re: Warning about macs(Apple)
Sorry to hear about your problem Mick, that really sucks... But I would agree with gunter that you should be able to get this fixed under warranty if you've owned the G5 for less than a year, it's only the phone support that seems to be running out after 90 days...a bit misery if you ask me considering the price of these machines As far as "taking my advice"...I have to agree with gunter that the same thing could have happened with a PC; I have many friends who use G5's and they seem to be very reliable on the whole. And if you did a similar search on any brand PC I'm sure you'd come up with a lot of hits on similar problems. Remember you need to put this number in perspective with the number of units sold worldwide. It's always horrible when you get a lemon, and it appears that's what you have on your hands with that power supply. But it looks like you're still under general warranty and should be able to get this fixed, so contact your dealer.Best of luck to you Mick!matto

Re: Warning about macs(Apple)
Michael:I'm really wanting to give you the benefit of the doubt here that this isn't just a "Mac-Bash" post. Since I don't know you, I'll assume it is as you say it is...That being said, there is a little unknown (or unrealized) fact with Mac purchases. First, of course, you do have the one year warranty. Secondly, you have up until the day your warranty expires to purchase the extended warranty. That's right, you don't have to purchase the warranty at the time of sale...As far as Apple's customer service, I had a PowerBook G4, which did not have the extended warranty. At approxiamtely 20 months the mainboard went out. Even though I was well out of warranty, they took care of it free of charge. Thus, I do find it a bit difficult to believe that Apple would blow you off like that. But, again, I give you the benefit of the doubt...

Re: Warning about macs(Apple)
Thank you so much,Ed,GJ,Matto and August for your reasoned and helpful advice.I have to admit I still feel bitterly disappointed about what's happened and am making the opening gambit regarding legal action.I have discovered that Mac are being sued for about $30.000.000 for selling refurbs as new,so they won't be too worried about me!However the fact that they are willing to do that suggests a slip in quality.I will keep you posted.Mick.

I still smell a Mac bash...August,why on earth would I Mac Bash unless I felt I had good reason. The reason is,I have a three month old machine that I paid maybe 20% to 30% more than the equivalent PC and it won't switch on!!!!I phoned on line support and they told me it had run out,it hadn't !!!!The mac (when it works) is absolutely superb and I was having great fun learning how to use it.NOW IT DOESN'T WORK.I paid for quality and got crap.I am sorry August but this is a bit like Ern's neighbour, until it happens to you.............................Mick.

Re: Warning about macs(Apple)
My kid bought a G3 iBook from eBay and it shut down on him after a month. We took it to the Apple store and they repaired it in two days and, even though he wasn't the original owner, it was less than a year old and they waived the $300 repair bill.Didn't cost a cent and it worked like new when he got it back...Everybody has different experiences.
