mixing is the magic bullet, fitting everything into one cohesive unit. Adjusting levels of volume, frequencies, space and time. I can't think of anything else or know any tool that doesn't affect one or more of those qualities in one way or another.

Totally agree. Do it right in the mixing stage and the mastering stays minimal and manageable. If there are major issues, then mastering can turn into a headache very quickly. (been there, done that.... ok, full disclosure, still there sometimes )

Thanks everyone. I've read and re-read these comments.
Mixing is my *weakest* point in this musical process, so I'm looking for, well a crutch if not a tool

I have it and I use it, but in more of a corrective than a creative role. It's an absolute lifesaver for stuff that was poorly recorded and/or mixed. You can bring a completely dead snare head back to life, correct poor mic placement, restore punch that wasn't even there to begin with and lots of other groovy things, but as others have noted, it won't mix for you. It's a very advanced tool, but if you did all the simple, basic stuff right, you should never need it.
You need to get the sounds at the source and mix with a plan, starting from a solid arrangement; good mic technique and gain staging are top priority cuz mixing is a garbage in, garbage out proposition. I recommend Mike Senior's Mixing Secrets For The Small Studio for tons of specific instruction.
My favorite use for Vitamin? Using the "Mix Refresh" preset to touch up a latin jazz recital that was recorded from audience perspective, in the balcony, cuz there was no other option.
Here's a review that should give you a clue.
