Not sure how that has any bearing on this thread
It does because last year you shared via your Youtube Channel a journey of making 100 tracks and trying to generate revenue via streaming and other methods. As it turns out Jerry was talking about a slightly different approach, more of a calling card to be talent spotted rather than an out & out revenue stream. So maybe not as much bearing as the OP suggested.

or why you're so focused on my activities
You may well be the only Taxi member who put their journey out there for the whole world to see. it's interesting to follow but did you not expect any comeback ? Otherwise what's the point ?

and approach?

I said last year I think you've got your whole approach backwards. Time will tell.

If there's some specific helpful advice that you have somehow held back until now, I'm happy to hear it.

There's no big secret Jay. Go back to my very first post from about 10 years ago..I'm asking the same sorts of questions as all the other newbies.

post205088.html#p205088

For you I think I've said it before but if you invert your strategy from business goals to artistic ones I think you'll have more success. It's the difference between churning out 10 tracks per month that have little to no licensing potential, VS investing that same time taking piano or guitar lessons or singing or production courses etc. They are better long term strategies because eventually they enable you to make 10 tracks per month that are a far more likely to bring success.

Thanks for the name of that fb group!

Jay: Yea I'm with you, and everything you said was pertinent to my question. Very much appreciated.
Yea I make about 2 cents on each bmi statement for my Jerry Jennings stuff. But I've never really done any internet marketing on it. I've always sold cd's at concert events, but that's now a thing of the past, since I'm not gigging, and CD's sold on the net will never be a thing again. BTW, who wants to buy boxes of cd's, 30 discs for a buck? That's my new worth in the cd market! Probably less. Way less!

The film/tv stuff brings me way more money, comparatively. Still can't quit my studio and teaching jobs. But I figured if I did something as opposed to nothing in the way of promotion, maybe I could get my artistic stuff more into the same ballpark, or even better. That's why I purchased that indie spotify bible. And that's what led to my question here, which you answered perfectly. I figure I'll have to dive into that "curator" thing which sounds like not my thing at all, but I'll have to make it my thing.

Also, I had been attempting to unify all my stuff under one artistic identity, since that's what I was getting from people in the book I mentioned. But that's not working so good. People waiting for my next artistic endeavor hear some ukulele piece and they just can't relate to it at all. I have to rethink that. I have more to go on now, thanks to your advice about stuff I post that is monetized and what is not. I think I will stick to non-moneitzed for sharing cues, and monetized for my Jerry Jennings stuff. Anyway, as I said I will probably hit you up with another question once I get to a clearing.
Thanks, J

" if you invert your strategy from business goals to artistic ones I think you'll have more success. "

Not sure how that story works between the two of you, but it's a valuable nugget for me. And it does relate to my question. When I first started taxi, I took every style as a challenge, and tried to write some stuff I just hated. Bad move! It made me start hating music for a while. Kind of like whenever I've practiced speed on the guitar. Makes me hate music. I figure if I want to do something I hate, there are lots of other non-music careers I could dive into. But if I'm going to do music because I love it, then I need to keep loving it. So my creative time in the studio is for those rare taxi listings that are in my wheelhouse, or they are me just writing what I write.

There's no story really, it's just that Jay was brave enough to document his sync licensing year in 2019 - and I called him out on his goal. The much publicized plan was to make 100 tracks with various collaborators and after carefully listening to a number of them I said that IMHO his goal should be to improve musically even if it meant a lower track count.

I also mentioned the difference between being goal oriented and process oriented and that the latter might serve him better as by working on his craft or process his long term goal would follow sooner ( Passive Income ) than by repeating his short term goal ( Make 100 tracks in a year )

That's my take on it anyway.

I wasn't around for any of that, but he seemed to understand my dilemma and respond to it, so I think it must fall out of the realm of your conversation, where I actually agree with you I think, overall.

Hey Jay, just saying thanks again for the input. I am restructuring my thought process. Instead of trying to balance between my "cue" self and my fusion self, I'm now just putting all my energy into the cue side of things. It's just simpler. And hopefully I will be scoring a film in the next year or so as well. I was checking out your site and it's pretty concise. I'm kindof restructuring mine the same way. jerryjenningsmusic.com Except you host other writers, and I don't know if I will do that. And I see you know Peter. Super cool person, and we've worked together and probably will again.

I've been trying to apply what Michael has been saying forever. The stuff I never did in the past, like the blog and taxi tv. I plan to expand into a bunch of co-writing as well. I actually tried that once before with the only other person in my town that was in taxi. I got turned off by that experience but I see a lot of people here doing it online and for some reason that didn't seem too realistic for me before but now it does. BTW... Well I'm down for co-writes or guitar work, so let me know if there's a need. Ok tuning out, thanks! J

Hey Jerry happy to help!

I've kind of gotten away from cues and focusing more on vocal productions but still getting it done and having fun.

We'll be releasing our first album on 8.08 so I'm looking forward to that and have another two more planned out at least.

In the meantime I've got some of my more recent Drone cues in for a listing, and we have a couple of Adult Contemporary tracks that are pending for a few of the Covid19 listings so we'll see how she goes.

I'm always DTC (down to collab) so drop me a private msg here on the forum or even better shoot me an email at hagartyrealty2@gmail.com and we'll get something going.

Have a good one and chat soon!

Jay :)
