Thanks, John - admittedly, I'm pretty much an envious sucker for James Taylor-style songs. In fact, for finger-style playing, I purposely went out and found a small-body, slotted-head tuners, 12-fret Alvarez (thanks ebay)... and it has quickly become a favorite go-to; and like how it records.
That stated - I was HOPING to steer away from it sounding too much like a rip-off of his style; thus my post requesting SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

Maybe handing it to a great piano-genius, it could be more John Legend? Or - just more in the realm of Contemporary Pop?

Help - I need somebody.
Help - Not just anybody.
Help - You know I need someone...
HELP! :? 8-)

I am sorry if I didn't make myself clear when I said ticks and pops.

I meant there are effects plugins out there that emulate the classic ticks and pop sounds of vinyl records not the literal electronic click sounds in your DAW!

I hear a classic-type, Woody Guthrie sound to this, especially in your vocal!

Also..
I think you have re-mixed this and maybe added too much compression to the whole mix. I would suggest some compression on the vocal but the guitar was fine the way it was, IMO.

I may be wrong about the re-mix but I think going for a more classic sounding mix, ala the Woody Guthrie era, would give you the chance to pitch this to Music Libraries as an almost vintage-style Classic Folk song, without having another singer perform this.

Again, I am not the best one to chime in on this but you have been so supportive of your fellow members over the years (a great thing BTW), Peter! I felt compelled to try and bring to you some of the listening ears I have developed over the years! Especially since joining TAXI!

Lyrics-wise, Tom is a great one to listen to for that! He is an expert in great Lyrics!

I wish you all the best, Peter!

Go your own way! Out of necessity, drive, gumption, whatever.. don't let anyone tell you you can't!
It's not what goes into your music that's important, it's what comes out the speakers

Nope - haven't made any changes - the track posted is ONLY A ROUGH DEMO/guide track - and will remain that way until I'm settled on which direction to take it.
But - thanks again for the detailed comments. I don't think I will be the one singing on the final production of the song.
