Sorry, 421, for giving you the wrong track! :)

I returned or forwarded this song because

"It is nearly impossible to tell that this in fact is a cover of "Separate Ways"..(assuming originally recorded by Journey)"

Same chord progression, same melody, same words...not sure why anyone would not be able to tell this was a cover of Separate Ways.

For the record, I would have returned it also...I bit off a little more than I could chew trying to do a convincing orchestral arrangement, and the vocals don't really work for me. But why the unnecessary and bizarre dig, 421? Are you saying I could release this as a novel song and Jonny Cain and the boys would have no issue with it? Maybe you were Covid stressed and needed to lash out at somebody! :D No hard feelings. Peace!

Here's the track...

Hmmmm...

Now to be honest I've never heard that song before , looking on Wikipedia they never had a Top 40 single here in the UK until a re-release of " Don't Stop Believin" in 2009 after someone won the X-Factor with it. I think we were all too busy listening to New Wave back then.

So little wonder I have no familiarity with the song, but even I can tell it's the sang song ! "Nearly Impossible " is a huge stretch IMHO for someone who actually knows the song from back in the day.

That said, rejection is a huge part of the business and you have to learn to take it on the chin without feeling like crap. Even the most successful folk ( of which I am not one ...but have had a modicum of success ) get stuff rejected by Libraries directly or feedback that means they have to change parts or remix stuff.

FWIW I kinda liked it , I have certainly heard much worse covers !

Just listened to the song.... Doesn't sound like a dig to me. Sounds like they somehow got the wrong song or listened to something other than the track you intended.

I'd email them and try and figure out what might have happened.

That's definitely Separate Ways (My fav Journey song) May have gotten the wrong song to critique?

Love your idea with orchestral!

Here is what the screener was listening to, submitted as a cover of "Separate Ways" by Journey, mind you!

Soda Pop Flip Flop

This was created for a kids anime-type show...I can see why screener 421 was so critical now!

Peace and thanks everybody.

ha ha, yes nothing like the original!
soda pop flip flop might also be good for upbeat advertising music, or (with some epic percussion) a news show theme? Just typing out loud...
