write submit forget..... wait?

Post by Gillihan » Tue Apr 04, 2023 7:43 pm

I've had 8 forwards and no call backs, emails or nothing. I keep writing for the listings, nose to the grindstone and I am starting to nail them most times. Anyone have any idea how long for some sort of reply?

Hi there, I know exactly how you feel. I had about 30 forwards since last summer and the last reaction to a forward was in August 2022 from forwards in spring 2022. It's that part of the Taxi game that is hard to handle at times. On the other hand, I know from a Taxi member who recently posted that he was contacted 14 months after a forward for a specific listing! Up to the feedback from the screeners, the timing in the Taxi realm is very clear and specific and you know what you have to deal with. After that....................it's like releasing an object into deep space: it could hit a target, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, or never.....If you're not too attached to specific results at a specific time this is the place for you!

Used to take me 20+ forwards to hear back from one library on average. When they did reply it was usually within a coupla weeks

This is pretty common. One great thing is if your tracks were good enough to get forwards, they are very marketable. If you don't get bites, you can always pitch them directly to libraries. Just knowing they pass "the bar" (Screeners can be tough!) is extremely helpful. And keep on doing what you are doing-- 8 forwards is good!

Very common question. It is incredibly important that you do not reach out to libraries directly until you are prepared and understand the business enough. Otherwise you risk shooting yourself in the foot and burning a bridge.

There are no lists for libraries, you have to earn your way in. I did a video about how to get into libraries on your own: https://youtu.be/iLaDcV5qenE

Like Casey said, if you are getting forwards, your music is up to par. Something I've experienced is that libraries want to work with composers that can deliver 5-10 tracks at a time... it makes their administrative lives easier. Check out my video, let me know if you have any questions.
