Hey, Lamar -
FWIW, really glad you resisted any temptation there might have been to use the overused finger-snaps percussion found in way too many New Country songs.
This sounds like a palatable and interesting blend of Old School Country & modern/urban. IMHO - well done. (I just listened to Mix 2 - didn't scroll down to see you've done more!)
Listening to #6 just a few seconds in... I was already liking the percussion track of #2... so this one was NOT as 'clean' to these Old-Guy ears.
But if you're aiming at modern, doing the OPPOSITE of what I like - is probably SPOT ON!
That makes at least two of us, Peter. I often find that the path to forwards runs opposite to my personal taste. Then again, I'm not trying to make music for me to purchase.
I'm getting ready to upload version 8. Hopefully, you enjoy it.
Onward and upward!

Lamar,
I like mix 2 much better. Not crazy about the buzzy synth motif at :48, where the twangy baritone guitar comes in. I would rather just hear the twangy guitar, and I found the synth distracting. But that may just be me, if others didn't mind it. Other than that, I really like the vibe.

Thanks for listening and writing, Vince. Hope all is well with you. I'm uploading version 8 next.

Well... I still like the drum track of #2 best.
Like belly-buttons are our opinions - everyone's got one.

After listening a few more times, I think that the synth part was way too loud. See if this approach works better for you.

Great track, love all the elements but for a few things.
First one mainly: The bass disappears when I check on the 5" Avantone. Might want to add some saturation/harmonic generator plugin like MaxxBass.
Secondly a taste thing: Initial response was it's a little crowded and the three things that seem to be the culprits are the acoustic strummed guitar, the mandolin and the percussive reverse cymbal thing. They sound like they are sharing the same frequencies and not adding up in a real positive way for me.
My belly button. [quoting Peter

Thanks, Les. That makes sense. I listen again in the morning.

It appears that Mix 2 is leading in popularity. It may not be Urban enough, but I like it too. Maybe it's shortcomings can be addressed in the mastering stage.
