Almost any Warren Zevon song has a great first line. How 'bout Eagles' Tequila Sunrise, "It's another Tequila Sunrise, starin' slowly 'cross the sky..." also says a lot with just a few words and paints quite a picture, too. Makes one think of opening a bloodshot eye after one too many 'mornings, after' too many nights of one Tequila Sunrise too many...don't worry, that'll makes sense after the next tequila, or after sunrise, whichever comes first. ;)

God said to Abraham kill me a son,
Abe said to God, you must be putting me on.
Bob Dylan Hiway 61 Revisited

She wasn't good but she had good intentions
Lyle Lovett

I wanna be by myself
I came in this world alone

It's 3:00 AM and I'm coming home
from another one night stand
The steering wheel feels like putty in my hand
The all night Country DJ just stopped making sense
And I'm strung out like the tightest wire on a frozen barbed wire fence.

I used to play it but forgot who wrote it.

You way overestimate yourself, Moj!   Just joshin' ya!

I always liked The Eagles:

He was a hard-headed man
He was brutally handsome, and she was terminally pretty

"Terminally pretty"... love that...

From "Life's Been Good" by Joe Walsh:

I have a mansion
Forget the price
Ain't never been there
They tell me it's nice

The rest of the song is really great too!

Best first line

Here's the most recent one I wrote...

He sips the sweet September air and fights the tears back
They call his Dad a hero, but that don't bring him back
Gotta be strong for his Momma, Gotta sing Amazing Grace
There's determination written on his face

I'm back!

Step out the front door like a ghost into the fog where no one notices the contrast of white on white.
