YouTube - terms changing Jan 5 2022

Post by funsongs » Sun Nov 28, 2021 1:59 pm

Greetings.
If you have your own YouTube channel, likely you got an email notice about changes to the terms and conditions of using YouTube, for any reason.
In order to participate in the Live Chat, it appears one must have such an account, and have agreed to ALL of the terms mandated for using the platform.
Seeing an increase of weird and even 'disturbing' recommendations and content, I decided to delete all of my content, and my own channel.
Having done so, I will not be permitted to engage in the Live Chat for future TAXI TV & QHH episodes; but I'll watch them up until the Jan 5th 'cutoff' date.
Adios, YouTube.
In the future, maybe another platform will emerge that will perform a similar service and function, without all the encumbrances of YouTube.

Your mileage may vary. :? 8-)

I'm confused. What part of the terms and conditions are an issue? What do you mean by "have such an account"? I just read the email about T&C changes and there was pretty much nothing to it.

Apparently having a YouTube account is a prerequisite to being allowed access to Live Chat, and even leaving a comment in the comment section - part of a Google-related thing, I reckon.

I think it's always been like that. That does not appear to be part of changes for Jan 2022. You sure you don't already have an account and forgot?

Yes - I mentioned that I deleted my YouTube channel. So, without that... so went my account; thus - no longer access to comments or chat.

I have an account (by whatever name) that allows me to chat, and post comments on other videos. I do not know if that is the same as 'having a channel', but I think a person could be a viewer/participant without being a creator/participant.
I'd find out if they are two separate tiers of youtube-ishness. Maybe creating a channel account automatically created the member account; deleting the one then also deleted the other?
I also saw the email, but gave it no thought as this is the time of year we all get inundated with "terms and conditions" from everyone who I have an account with - banks, utilities, libraries, etc..

Yes, it has been like that for a long time. I wondered a little, too, when I read Peter's post, because I always could not comment because I did not have an account.
Correct. And now, without an account - if/when you attempt to post a comment, a notification pops up that states something like:
"by posting this comment you are creating a channel, and agreeing to all of the terms and services."
So, 'silent watching' from now until 1/5/22, from The Peanut Gallery; and then the "Adios".
As always: Your mileage may vary.

"...but Chief - shouldn't we be using The Cone Of Silence?!" - 86'd.

Hey Peter
JHMO but I think you are making a big deal out of nothing here. If you are worried about the T&C associated with everything, you may as well not use the internet. Also, the benefits of many things far outweigh the other concerns (Taxi TV for example).

Best,
Casey

I've never actually read the T&Cs to anything , who cares. Just tick the box.

Youtube is my favorite creation in this world of social platforms ,if I had to give up all others platform I wouldn't care, I get a lot of work because of youtube videos I have created...I still don't understand what the fuss is all about, maybe I should read it too....or not.

After all how else is Sting going to hire me one day if he doesn't have a chance to stumble over my youtube channel while he is eating grapes in Italy.. :D

Gonna miss you Peter.
