I have a friend who knows absolutely zilch about music production but would like to start making EDM just as a hobby.
If she was certain it was EDM she wanted to make, and knowing that hobbies involve a certain amount of expense and Ableton Live wasn't too expensive for her, that or Propellerhead's Reason might be the best way to get started. I'm sure there are a ton of videos and tutorials.

If you know you want a race car and have the money, buy a race car, not a family sedan. If you need transportation, there are other factors for consideration. I'm not much for generic tutorials, they can teach you the basics of driving, but they don't explain the features and unique considerations of driving and operating a specific vehicle.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions folks. I'd already recommended Groove 3 to her and suggested she begin with either FL Studio, Ableton Live or Bitwig. I'll compile a list of useful vids from your suggestions and pass it on. Cheers.

Don't forget Tracktion is easy to grok if you've ever used a mixer and T6 is both cross-platform and free.
