Presonus Studio One V2
Presonus had a sale on Studio One V2 that ended November 30. True to form, I didn't find out about it until the sale was over. The upgrade sale price (from Studio 1 V1 Pro to V2 Pro) was $99, but December 1st it went back to $149 for on-line download or $199 for the retail box. However, I followed a tip from one of the forums and found I could get the retail box from audiomidi.com for $99, so a full $100 off what you'd pay from Presonus or just about everywhere else. I ordered mine last night.
S1 is an awesome DAW, and S1 V2 includes Melodyne Essentials, which is normally about $60-80 by itself, so $99 is somewhat of a bargain.
Besides Melodyne integration, one of the cool things about V2 that I'm looking forward to is the ability to render individual midi tracks to audio, effects and all, thus saving CPU. Supposedly you can revert them back to midi at any time!
The gear that is available to us for our home studios these days is just awesome!

Yes, I LOVE it too!cameron wrote:S1 is an awesome DAW, and S1 V2 includes Melodyne Essentials, which is normally about $60-80 by itself, so $99 is somewhat of a bargain.

I changed from Cubase (after almost 20 years) and I haven't looked back. In fact, I loaded some old projects I still have in Cubase and I was shocked by how much faster my workflow is in Studio One.

FYI, Presonus' $99 sale is over, but you can still get the retail box upgrade from V1 Pro to V2 Pro for $99 from audiomidi.com, which is $100 less than you'll find it just about anywhere else. I've been waiting since Christmas for mine, which seemed to be due to a Presonus factory delay (other sites were also out of stock) but I got word that mine shipped today from audiomidi.com.
$99 retail box includes all the CDs for S1 V2 plus Melodyne Essentials, so how can you lose?

Re: Presonus Studio One V2
Just received this great offer via email from Presonus:
Here’s a killer deal you should tell all your friends about: During the Winter NAMM show (January 19-22), you can buy Studio One Artist 2 (a $99 value) from our online store for the absurdly low price of $20.12. Yes, that’s right, just 20 bucks and change for the newest version of our full-featured entry-level DAW! To get your copy, go to http://studioone.presonus.com/shop/buy- ... ne-artist/

Re: Presonus Studio One V2 - advice?
Hi all,
I am actually going to switch away from Digital Performer, which I have used for years. It was great in its day, particularly for post scoring, which is what I mostly used to do. I was going to just go with Logic, but you guys have me intrigued with Presonus S1V2.
My question is: how is the midi editing? I am used to convenient, very fine control over midi parameters (my favorite sequencer in that respect was Vision, which I still miss sometimes - I never warmed to Logic in its pre-Apple days). I don't hard-quantize much and like to nudge and tweak midi a lot, especially velocity and timing; I use the nudge keys a lot in DP. I'm sure Studio 1 has all the features all the DAWs have, but implementation varies across platforms, as you all know. For example, I also use Reason, and while it has full midi editing features, it's not very fluid (great app otherwise, though). I didn't see that much info on the Presonus site about detailed midi editing, and was just wondering if anybody could shed some light.
When I can afford it, I could probably get Logic or something else in addition to S1, but...just wondering.
thanks
Jon

So far, I'm pretty thoroughly disappointed in S1; it's nowhere near as intuitive as Tracktion.

Re: Presonus Studio One V2
Thanks for the input mojo. I will check that out.
I should have been more explicit probably. I am an old mac guy, and as such I really hate mousing around. Key commands (or control surface) for almost everything! I know that lots of people don't feel that way, so really, that was my question; it seems that lots of modern apps are relatively mouse-oriented: S1?
For example, I did find a video about midi note nudging, but it's done via mouse scroll-wheel in a field. I know other people don't see a problem with that sort of thing, but I know i would hate it everyday.
thanks again

Hi Stuart,
Thanks for the link. I did see this video - it's the one I referenced above (mousing in a field). The guy in the video does say that he's going to see if there's a key command, but then never gets around to it! Arg. Maybe I'll just download the demo and see how it feels. I was just curious about other people's impressions.
Did a little reading about Tracktion, and it seems to have been abandoned by Mackie. I have heard great things about it though, and it does look nice and clean.

Re: Presonus Studio One V2
I've used tracktion for a while now. I found it great for using as a kind of "scratchpad", it's really easy to get ideas down quickly and there's a key press for just about anything. Unfortunately I find the lack of a dedicated mixer screen to be it's downfall. The fact that Mackie has all but abandoned it is a bummer as well.jonnybutter wrote:Hi Stuart,

I just bought the Studio one artist $20 special but haven't had enough time to form an opinion. It's midi capabilities don't seem very earth shattering though I may just not be seeing it yet.
My favorite by far at the moment is Reaper. Very powerful, vast customising potential and damn cheap. Also has a great support base in the forum. Unfortunately midi is second best in this as well.
