Oops, sorry Johnny.

When I use midi, I tend to play my keyboard and keep the natural feel of my playing. Or I'll use Alt+Q which is 50% quantize in Studio One. Beyond that, I don't fool with MIDI all that much.

However, I do assign various faders and effect parameters to the assignable knobs and faders that are on my keyboard (which is very easy to do).

According to the key commands on this chart:
http://www.presonus.com/media/manuals/s ... mmands.pdf

Nudge seems to be:
Nudge = Alt+Right Arrow.
Nudge Back = Alt+Left Arrow.

@Stuart: Thanks man! Yeah, I always play my midi events in too, but sometimes I get a little too much of the 'human element', so I need to tweak, especially when instruments speak with different amounts of latency.

@David: thanks for the tip about Reaper. Will be busy in the next couple of months trying new apps - in my 'spare time'

have a great week everybody

Thanks for the link. I did see this video - it's the one I referenced above (mousing in a field). The guy in the video does say that he's going to see if there's a key command, but then never gets around to it! Arg. Maybe I'll just download the demo and see how it feels. I was just curious about other people's impressions.

Did a little reading about Tracktion, and it seems to have been abandoned by Mackie. I have heard great things about it though, and it does look nice and clean.

The interface is the cleanest and swiftest I've ever seen for tracking and mixing. I love it so much, I still use it for nearly everything, even though it's essentially abandonware. I'm using Reaper for stuff like drum loop slicing and whatnot, but Tracktion can't be beat for tracking basics and straightforward mixing. And yep, there's (very good) control surface support, but you don't need it, cuz of the key commands; I often use my wireless desktop as a remote when tracking MIDI drums, and for editing, you can really fly. A warning about that; if you track MIDI drums, you'll want Tracktion 2; Ver 3 has a bug that slightly screws up MIDI capture, but it's worth having for multiprocessor support/mixing.

I've never used anything other than S1 and Sony Acid Pro, but midi note editing in S1 seems simple enough to me, certainly easier than it was in Acid Pro. To change timing you just drag the notes on the piano roll where you want them, and selections below the piano roll let you control velocity (depicted as the length of a vertical line at the start of the note). I've never gotten into midi editing much more than dragging a wrong note to the right one, changing the length, velocity, or volume, and it was all pretty intuitive. I can see where nudging with the above key commands would be nice at times, but I haven't tried it yet.

I wouldn't say S1 is perfect-- there are a few small things that seem cryptic at first-- but with any program that is highly capable and flexible, there seems to be some added complexity.

I'm not sure how it is in the other DAWs, but S1 lets you easily modify the latency of the whole track at once so that all your instruments are in sync.

I bought the LIte ver. of S1 and fiddled with it for a while, but the thought of learning another DAW is just too daw-nting. I was hoping it was enough like REaper or X1 or Reason6 (figured it had to be similar to one of these!)to make a seemless migration to PreSonia. But alas, it was just too much for these slow-firing synapses to take and I uninstalled. The fact that S1 has some integration with my MelodyneStudioSuite that other daws don't is very intriguing, ARA I believe is the protocol/lingo/code/whatever... But, I'm going to wait for my other daws to jump on the Celemony train and support those new integration features. It may take a while.

I found it very easy to migrate from Cubase. You can even setup the keystroke commands the same as your old DAW. ;)

If you are migrating from another DAW to Studio One, you might find it helpful to switch the key-command set to one specifically created to make the transition from another DAW easier. - Studio One Manual

Also, there are a number of great free video tutorials on the Presonus website that made learning easy (I didn't even need to read the manual at all, at first):

That's good news. Alot of buzz about S1 for sure. I like the pair of Eurekas I have and the FaderPort, maybe I should D/L the full version to give it a fair shake. Thanks.

No Problem. :)

Did you happen to see this video of Teddy Reily (one of Michael Jackson's Producers) demonstrating Studio One at NAMM 2012?:

...you'll see why there's such a lot of buzz... ;)

From my experience Studio One V2 does have a few bugs to be worked out yet, but nothing I've found so far that should be a deal breaker. There are some CPU-related issues when running really big Kontakt libraries, but not sure yet if it's a S1 or Kontakt problem. When I start pegging the CPU I transform some of the Kontakt midi tracks to audio and that reduces the CPU load. You have the ability to transform them back to midi at any time, which I think is way cool.

I just bought a Faderport to go with S1 and set-up was literally as simple as plugging it into the USB port. I highly recommend it.
