Quote:matto, are your yearly taxi expenses only about $350 a year?does that mean you're only submitting about 10 songs a year? The renewal is 200, or 300 for two years so I'm not sure where you get the 10 songs a year from. And I wasn't saying anywhere that you were Taxi bashing.

guestimate of taxi/broadjam/mailing expenses being 250-300s, give or take, with the rest going to 5$ a submission-- quick math from your 55k/150 years comment, prob. my math was wrong.

Re: 19 forwards, no $$
Warning... fascitious remarks follow. My computer isn't bringing me any money yet. Nor is my new mic. Or the software I just bought. Come to think of it, the cat doesn't bring in any money. Nor does the garden. I mean, it's nice to look at, but perhaps I should pave it over and charge for parking.okay end of silliness.... now back to our regular program. So I sit here I wonder, why should I enter a discussion about the money making prospects of a Taxi membership when so many of my peers have already said exactly what I think. Taxi gives me access to a market. A market that is listening to my music. I'm reaching people I wouldn't reach on my own. And what impresses me is that those with an already established big network, who pitch outside of Taxi, also still belong to Taxi. Why? Because they want to have the most access to the market for their music.I've read many posts like this that talk about the cost of being a Taxi member and when will they see a return on their investment. No one can tell you. Taxi does just what it says it does - if your music gets over the bar, they give it directly to the listing party. You get a listen. My music has been listened to by some pretty big players in the music industry - people who would never listen to an unsolicited submission from someone they don't know. Taxi helps me create relationships. Also, in my case, it's educated me about the industry and the industry's requirements. I've grown because of my Taxi membership. But hey, that's just me. No one can make your choices for you.

Re: 19 forwards, no $$
-I've been a taxi member for 7 years. -Within two years I made enough to pay for 10 years of Taxi (upfront money)-since then, the royalties from my early deals could buy me about another 10 years of Taxi.- I'm defiantly in the BLACK.-- I am known for the occasionally whiny post about my stuff not being forwarded etc.. but, I keep working HARD (no video games- no lazy days on the couch!!) and I do get at least a couple of offers a year (I have to turn down most of 'em).---I make a majority of my music money from contacts found outside of Taxi --BUT, I now see many of these same contacts using Taxi listings. --Bust your ass making good/great music with NO B.S. excuses and you can make some fat cash! I'm proof!--ACTUALLY, play video games- spend the day on the couch- have excuses for not churning out high quality/quantity product!! It's more money for me!!

Re: 19 forwards, no $$
There can be a tremendous lag (up to 1 year) between having your song forwarded and scoring a deal. Then there is the lag between the deal and actual placement on TV etc. This happened to me - but when it all comes together you make money (I just did and I have only had a handful of forwards). Also if you don't like a deal when you see the contract, don't be afraid to try to have the terms changed or knock it back (and read the TAXI listing carefully to make sure you would be willing to submit your song for that deal).I have a preference for non-exclusive deals (because I perform live and get royalties that way as well).Best of luck with it - I know you will be successful.
