Quote:A few years ago, my friend hired/rented a cell phone from LAX (on arrival) for the couple of weeks she spent in L.A. and at the Road Rally. Of course it meant having a temporary phone number, but she found it useful for contacting people while in the U.S., and it wasn't very expensive.interesting. do you know which company did it?

Which company do you use for your cell? I think vodafone is part of verizon or t-mobile here and you can buy a sim card for your phone. It was a while ago that I'd checked this out so things may have changed - Also, check out ebay as you can just buy a CHEAP pay-as-you-go phone for use in the us and then just buy a sim card here for it for the time. As far as money - when we go overseas we just used our ATM cards to pull money out as needed rather than transfer money. Check to see what logos are on your ATM card and then you can see here. One of the larger networks are Cirrus (which I found was all over western europe ATMs). This also gives you a good exchange rate rather than paying for transfers or exchange fees. I'll check it out with Bob later from his last trip and get the info to you - Anne
