3 Forwards to Project D061228OR

Quote:A wide range of great-sounding FILM/TV ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a Music Licensing Co./Clearing House that needs to expand their current roster of music. Live instrumentation is preferred, of course, but MIDI augmented by real instruments will work. Just MIDI is OK if your pieces really sound authentic. All tempos are OK. Try to keep your pieces under 5 minutes. They’d like new music in place by early January, therefore they need material to consider as quickly as next week. They’ve recently had placements on “Veronica Mars” (CW) and on “Men In Trees” (ABC). They’ve also had placements on CBS, FOX, MTV, and the WB [among others]. They offer a non-exclusive 50/50 deal -- they collect the publishing $, you the writer $. And you keep the song’s copyright [they simply re-title your song and keep that new title in their library -- there’s no new copyright]. No uncleared samples of any kind and you must own 100% of your song’s rights [publishing & master rights]. They asked us to be very selective in what we forward to them, so we’ll only select the very best. Broadcast quality needed [great sounding home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. TAXI # D061228OR I got forwarded for this project, so hopefully something good will come of it. Still waiting on my other forwards too, but I am a patient person. Any idea how often a forward actually gets used? Contacted? Someone said 40% of members get forwarded each year, and I guess maybe only 40% of that 40% (i.e. 10% of all people) get forwarded?I am not skeptical by any means, but I am just trying to figure out how much of a big deal it is to get forwarded. Some people are estatic, some are "oh well". Just curious!Oh, the songs forwarded are:Eastern RomanceFall from GraceDark PassageThanks!Jon

Some people are estatic, some are "oh well". Just curious!Congratulations to you!You really can't put a percentage or figure on how often somebody is contacted or how likely it would be...because it varies from company to company and also depends on what else was forwarded along with your submissions.A forward means: A music professional familiar with the listing and listing party found your material to be appropriate and of sufficiently high quality to be of potential interest to the listing party. Now the submission is in the hands of that listing party. Once they get around to listening to it, they will make the decision who among the submitting composers (if any) they like. If they are looking to sign a lot of material chances that you'll be contacted are obviously a lot better than if they just need 1 cut. And if your material is among the best, or more importantly most useable for this particular company of all the forwarded submissions, then your chances are a lot better too.My personal opinion: if you get forwarded a lot to the kinds of listings that are your target within the music industry, you should stick with it because you obviously have enough talent and craft to "make it". I persevered and while it took me a few years I now do music for a living.Hope this helps and best of luck to you!matto

Congrats! All you can do is be happy with your forwards and hope. Getting forwards is a good indication that your work has commercial potential in at least one market."Tis better to be have been forwarded and lost then to never have been forwarded at all" (A wise person once said)... Casey
