A big "Thanks" to Dave, Mazz, and Matt for hosting the 5 Year Plan class.
It was a fantastic dose of reality...

Mazz apparently slipped a crisp $100 bill into the palm of the person responsible for the class postings outside the classroom...

Yes, this class was truly helpful. When I heard about last year's class after the fact, I made sure to put it at the top of the list for this year, and I'm glad I did. I'd gleaned a fair amount of the information presented over the last year here on the forum, but there was still a lot that was new to me. I liked Mazz's idea of leveraging your day gig rather than letting it be like an anchor or barrier to your music -- that's something I need to ponder more.

People must have been studying Matto's royalty statement pretty intently, because I was sitting only halfway back and it never made it back that far! :)

Fantastic class btw! I loved the tips all of you gave... some seem so simple and obvious but to someone like myself who tends to over-think they are priceless!

This is the one class I was truly sorry to miss. I had to catch a plane back home early. If anyone has notes they would like to share, please pass them along.

Thanks -

Mazz and Matt - I will be there next time to hear (more of) your words o wisdom.

I missed that class too!
My flight had already taken off by the time the class started. Flying to Houston then Frankfurt then home...

Next year for sure!

As I've mentioned in another post, I was totally blown away by how incredible all the classes were at the Rally. Now that a week has gone by, I've had a chance to think about the things I've taken from each class. Whether it was production tips or marketing ideas, I walked out of every session with amazing information that I've already started using in my own music.

As useful as all those other sessions were, I think that the 5 Year Plan Class may well have been the most important class I went to, and perhaps the closest to what I would call "life-changing," at least for me. It's one thing to come out of a session with tips regarding EQ settings or mailing lists, but it's another thing entirely to come out of a room with the completely positive feeling that you're on the right path to what you want to do in life. Not because it's an easy path, but because Dave, Matt and John show you that the path does exist if you're willing to commit the time and effort.

It was amazing listening to their own experiences, and I think I took something very different, and incredibly helpful, from each of them. However, the most important thing I got from all three, and could've gotten from all three, was confirmation that what I want to do in life is in fact possible.
Many thanks, guys!

To everyone,

Wow... thank you so much for all those kind words. It's really a touching thing to read that and kind of puts things into perspective. I've been helped so much by those who came before me and continue to be helped by all those who are kind enough to share. That I can give back is truly a rewarding and heartwarming experience.
