Re: 7 returns

Ron,

I'm just expressing my experiences and opinions here. A lot of the people here KNOW. Me?, I'm just in the beginner's whirlwind.

I was a Taxi member a long time ago for a few years and out of about 10 submissions (cassette tape and CD burritos) I got 1 forward. It felt great! Nothing happened with it. 2 years ago I finally joined again (I knew I was going to join again at some point). In 2012 I had 30 returns, no forwards. In 2013, after 6 more returns, I FINALLY had a forward. I've submitted another 30 songs or so since then and have had 2 more forwards in 2013. So things are looking up.... Wooo Hoooo! You will probably do better than I have because it took me too long to start to learn I needed to target what I was submitting to better (I can be thick I guess.). I still have a lot more to do in that targeting process as far as what I write and what I submit to. If you do happen to get more returns, as I did, and as Richard did, there is no way in my opinion that you should think Taxi is not worth it. I guess some people have success immediately and Taxi as a "I will give it a try" thing works that way for them. I think however, that for most people, you have to accept that this is a learning process, and you have to accept it as a long haul education. I can't tell you how much I wish I didn't let finances and life get in the way 10-12 years ago. But, I swear, that is as far as I will let my woulda, coulda, shoulda go. I have to say with some pride, and again, I already had my drop out 10 years ago, but I have not once thought of not staying with Taxi in the last 2 years.

There is great encouragement on this thread. I think I'll return to it myself when I get a tough return. Thanks for starting it.

By the way, no deals yet from the forwards, but that is another part of the picture. If there is contact, it could be days, weeks, months, even years down the road. Pretty sure I've read it can be that extreme.

So keep reading the listings, writing, targeting. I've really just started using the forum in earnest myself over the past month or two. I'm going to the Road Rally next week also.

Sorry if this is overkill. If we meet at the Road Rally, I really talk a lot less than this.

Don't worry Ron. I am 0 for 18. That's 18 submissions, 0 forwards. There always seems to be something wrong. Not current. Too simple. Too complex. Too much of something, or not enough of something else. I can't say I have gotten used to getting returns (crappy thing to get used to), and I am not immune to feeling lousy when I receive another one, at least for a few minutes. But I am just going to keep at it.

I'm going to my second Road Rally this week, so I know I will pick up some new gems there to put to good use.

Take care,
Brad
