710 Twin-Finity Mic Pre & D.I.

Post by sethlit » Wed Nov 17, 2010 12:10 pm

So apparently, UAD is running a pretty decent deal until January. If you purchase the 710 Twin-Finity Mic Pre & D.I. then you get a UAD 2 solo accelerator package with it. My weakest link at the moment is my mic preamp. I've been using a presonus stereo blue tube mic pre. Maybe I need to work at it harder, but I haven't been all that impressed with the presonus. And besides, the UAD plugs sound great. SO. I was curious if anyone here has had any experience with the 710 Twin-Finity? Likes? Dislikes? I'd really appreciate some dot input. Thanks all.

I just got a 710 delivered yesterday but haven't had much time to do anything really meaningful with it yet - I did go DI with a Strat->710->Eleven Rack and that did warm up the Strat nicely, I'm thinking that running the 710 after the Eleven Rack will work as well, haven't figured out yet how to best connect that configuration.

I've been using 2 UAD-1 cards for quite a while, this was a good excuse to get a nice pre-amp upgrade and upgrade them at the same time.

I use my 710 for everything and like it alot. The "tone bleeding" knob is pretty cool but I find almost all time i"m somewhere in the middle. The saturated tube sound is a bit brittle, not as warm as I would have thought. Overall for my purposes it's awesome and was huge step up from my Presonus Eureka. If you need a pre and get some free UA plugs with it it's a no brainer to me.

Nice. I like what I'm hearing. You're right, to me the UAD 2 plugs make it a done deal. I'll mainly be using the pre for Vocals and the occasional Bass DI. I'll probably still use my setup for recording gtar. Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll keep you posted on what I do. Thusfar, I'm leaning toward using my handy new credit card for a 710 Twin-Finity purchase. ;)

As a side question...if I may...Is the UAD 2 solo card quite the upgrade from the original UAD card? Could I assume that it has twice the processing power? (I'm new to the UAD world)

Yes, according to this FAQ, the UAD-2 Solo is about 2.5 times as powerful as a UAD-1. It will also be able to run the newer hardware emulations that the UAD-1 can't.

Quick update...I'm loving the 710. Sounds great, especially for what I've got to compare it with. I'm really digging the versatility of sounds simply by the blend feature. I too am finding myself in the general 12 o clock position. Thanks for the info on the UAD-2 as well. Now I'm looking forward to its arrival. :D
