Rachel,I like this version. Drums are in a nicer place in the mix for me. I can tell it has 80's influences, but it doesn't have a pure 80's vibe. Hope that is what the listing is asking for. I am 50/50 on the sound effects. But if I were you, I'd gamble and leave them in.Thanks for setting me straight on the Billy Jean influence. Thought I was going crazy. lolDean

Although there are a lot of really, really good ideas in this track, it fails to give me that "80's vibe.IMHO I think there's too much midi going on. And although many eighties productions were a bit "sterile" and mechanical sounding, there's a fine line between making it 80's mechanical or too mechanical. Sounds were mostly analogue and fat, at least as fat as they could get in the eighties. Most productions were very clean and not very bass heavy. Each sound had it's own clearly defined space in the frequency spectrum. As digital reverbs were new they were the flavor of the month, and almost everything in the mix were given it's own ambient space. My suggestion would be, if real instruments are not an option, go all the way with synths trying to emulate early Roland, Oberheim, and/or Moog synths, programming some and play others manually. Sequencers were not that developed and didn't have the kind of timing and velocity resolution we have today.Having said that, I think you have the ideas going in the right direction, it's in terms of production you could improve this track.Hope it helpsGood luck!

Ulf - thanks a lot for your feedback. I've made some changes but I am starting to think I am working on a lost cause! I was originally submitting 2 tracks - aiming for a Jacko sounding 'sound bed' and a synth piece (the latter would have had a lot more 'space'). Pure synth piece won't be happening now but synths have found their way onto this track. Production for me is always a work in distress progress! Dean - chickened out of the sound effects!Rich - How's it going? - I don't think you started late by the time standards around here!Ummm.......in 2 minds whether to just trash this actually!! ....due in tomorrow. Will be back after I have re-gained hearing to listen to some of these other tracks in P2P.

Hey Rachel,Did you have Michael Jackson in mind when doing this? I think, personally ( I mean I love listening to 80's music even though it can sometimes be cheezy) change the drum sounds, and the bass sound, the lead is ok, but I feel like the drum and bass sound are holding it back a bit...Take Care and Good LuckBrad

Hi Brad! - Thanks a lot for your feedback - I was basing the drums and bass sounds on Billie Jean - I appreciate your feedback but as it's due in tomorrow, it's pretty much staying how it is! I've heard quite a few 80s tracks where the drums sound like mega cheese!!! Very happy if you did think of MJ without reading above posts though! Dear Michael and I share the same birthday but that's possibly the only thing we have in common! Thanks again,Rachel

Hey Brad - you've got a really good point there - it would help if I knew when things were due

O.K - this really is the last version. Going to submit it now before I change something else. Thanks again to everyone for their help. http://www.rlcmusic.com/audio/Jacksonic.mp3

Hey Rachel,Do you know if it's ok to only submit 1 song? Coz I read the listing again and it says 2-3songs?I'm in trouble if it's 2-3....
